Director APF Municipal & Cooperative Power

The Team:S&P Global Ratings is one of the worlds leading providers of independent credit risk research and benchmarks. Within S&P Global Ratings Americas Public Finance is an important sector of capital markets as our credit analysis supports key funding initiatives and serves as a growth driver for many areas of the economy. You will join a professional team of analysts that maintains a strong culture of analytical excellence and customer service in a supportive diverse and collegial environment. The Municipal & Cooperative Power team covers a portfolio of over 400 public power and electric cooperatives utilities.


Impact & Responsibilities:As aDirector you will be responsible for leading credit analysis for public power and municipal cooperative ratings. Your analytical initiatives will include credit event responses for the team collaborating with cross-practice energy teams and chairing rating committees. You will analyze a portfolio of assigned entities assess clients financial projections incorporate evolving risks into your analysis and resolve complex deal-specific analytical situations. This position is responsible for meeting with issuers and investors often in New York City on analytical matters assisting in resolving client needs contributing to media requirements in conjunction with other senior members of the organization and taking the lead at external meetings related to credits. This role also entails internal leadership both in mentoring junior analysts and supporting the overall leadership of the Municipal and Cooperative team in conjunction with the Analytical Manager Sector Leads and other Directors.

Specifically in this role you will:

  • Rate complex deals and proficiently write concise analytical reports.

  • Act as a senior member of rating committees and be responsible for convening and conductingrating committee deliberations for both public power and utility revenue ratings which cover water sewer and solid-waste issuers. You will act as the rating committee chair ensuring the integrity of the rating process and being an active vocal voting member of the committee.

  • Function as a sector expert on credits. Publish timely industry commentaries and proficiently write sector reviews and thought leadership pieces. Speak publicly and represent the company to external and develop necessary changes and innovations in rating methodology criteria standards and the ratings process.

  • Manage support and guide junior analysts while developing their analytical and personal skills. Review critique and provideconstructive analytic feedback on performance.

  • Embody a risk-aware culture by leading by example and ensuring that analytical guidelines quality standards procedures and policies established are adhered to for all credits.

  • Lead operational and process improvements maintaining a focus on both analytical excellence and a risk mindset.


What Were Looking For:

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree is required; postgraduate qualifications or equivalent work experience preferred.

  • 7 years of experience related to the Public Finance sector.

  • Strong analytical problem-solving and critical thinking skills with a demonstrated ability to coach and mentor analytical team members.

  • Propensity to show initiative and demonstrate proactive leadership.

  • Strong communication (both written and oral) and influencing skills.

  • The aptitude to be a team player balancing independent work.

  • The capacity and willingness to ensure that analytical guidelines quality standards procedures and policies established are adhered to for all credits.

  • Willingness to travelup to once a monthis expected for the position.


Additional Preferred Qualifications:

  • A deep understanding of the Public Finance sector including expertise in the power sector.


Compensation/Benefits Information:(This section is only applicable to US candidates)
S&P Global states that the anticipated base salary range for this position is $180000 to $209000. Final base salary for this role will be based on the individuals geographic location as well as experience level skill set training licenses and certifications.


Right to Work Requirements:This role is limited to persons with indefinite right to work in the United States.


All employees are required to work from the office a minimum of 2 days per week.


We require all candidates who reach the final stage of our interview process to attend at least one in-person interview which is ordinarily at your nearest S&P Global Ratings office. This must be completed before we can proceed to an offer.
