The mission of the Strategic Initiatives Bureau is to design and drive long term enterprise-wide transformation by evaluating policies programs and resources to strive towards maximum organizational effectiveness. Strategic Initiatives serves as a primary advisor to the Police Commissioner regarding the Departments short- and long-term strategic goals and examines new technologies and innovative solutions to help the Department fulfill its primary mission of keeping New York City safe. The Strategic Initiatives Bureau oversees the Office of Strategic Initiatives the Office of Management Analysis and Planning (OMAP) Change Management Office (CMO) and the Project Management Office (PMO).
Under the Office of the Deputy Commissioner of Strategic Initiatives the Project Manager will be responsible for the coordination and management of diverse projects across the Department. The Project Manager will be responsible for managing the full-life cycle of major improvement and new initiatives and provide analytical and technical assistance for planning coordinating and implementing large and complex projects. Specific tasks may involve:
-Works directly with project team members to develop project plans scope of work track progress and achieve deliverables.
-Generates various project-related documents including requirement specifications contracts schedules project plans and presentations meeting agendas minutes and status reports.
-Support the facilitation meetings with stakeholders and project team members to discuss project progress.
-Prepares and delivers informative and well-organized presentations.
-Resolves and/or escalates issues in a timely fashion.
-Understands how and when to communicate difficult/sensitive information appropriately.

Qualifications :
1. For Assignment Level I (only physical biological and environmental sciences and public health) A masters degree from an accredited college or university with a specialization in an appropriate field of physical biological or environmental science or in public health.
To be appointed to Assignment Level II and above candidates must have:
1. A doctorate degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in an appropriate field of physical biological environmental or social science and one year of full-time experience in a responsible supervisory administrative or research capacity in the appropriate field of specialization; or
2. A masters degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in an appropriate field of physical biological environmental or social science and three years of responsible full-time research experience in the appropriate field of specialization; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to 1 or 2 above. However all candidates must have at least a masters degree in an appropriate field of specialization and at least two years of experience described in 2 above. Two years as a City Research Scientist Level I can be substituted for the experience required in 1 and 2 above.

Appointments to this position are subject to a minimum probationary period of one year.
