Under immediate supervision class 3602 Library Page performs simple clerical and light physical tasks in the main and branch libraries. Examples of the essential functions of this class include but are not limited to:

These minimum qualifications establish the education training experience special skills and/or license(s) which are required for employment in the classification. Education: High school diploma or equivalent (GED or High School Proficiency Examination)
OR
Experience: Six (6) months (1000 hours) of clerical or customer service experience.
Substitution: Completion of an approved City and County of San Francisco Clerical Administrative training program (as designated on the job announcement) may substitute for the required education or required experience.

Condition of Employment:
In addition to the minimum qualications listed above applicants who are selected for a position must meet the following conditions:
1. Ability to lift boxes/bins weighing up to 30 lbs.
2. Ability to move loaded carts weighing up to 250 lbs.
Nature of Work:
Physical Requirements:
Positions in this classication include the ability to sustain physical effort involving considerable amounts of pushing and pulling library book carts and other library equipment packing and unpacking library materials standing bending squatting kneeling lifting and twisting to perform duties associated with daily tasks.
Notes:
Some positions in this class are subject to irregular work schedules and may require evening and/or weekend work; and require constant public contact. Positions in this classication may be required to work at various locations within the Library system.

SELECTION PROCEDURES:
After application submission candidates deemed qualified must complete all subsequent steps to advance in this selection process which includes the following:
Multiple Choice Examination (Weight: 100%):
Candidates meeting the minimum qualifications will be invited to participate in the online Library Page Exam. Candidates will be sent a web link via email that will allow them to take the online Library Page Exam to measure the knowledge skills and abilities in job-related areas which may include but are not limited to: knowledge of library systems; knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer/patron services; ability to interact respectfully effectively and courteously with staff library users and the public including the ability to promote a welcoming environment and establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with individuals co-workers and others; ability to read and follow written instructions including the ability to understand and comprehend written material; ability to listen and effectively elicit information including the ability to follow verbal instructions; ability to plan organize and complete assigned work in a timely manner within a dynamic setting with rapidly changing priorities; ability to maintain filing and tracking systems; ability to use a computerized data system to access create update and maintain computer files using word processing databases spreadsheets email and library-related software programs; ability to sort and file in alphabetical numerical and chronological order; ability to speak and communicate clearly concisely and effectively; and ability to compose simple memos and complete incident reports.
This computer-administered test can be taken at home or at a time and location of ones convenience but only within the time period specified on the test notification. Candidates must have access to a computer and reliable internet connection to participate in this exam.
This is a standardized examination and therefore test questions and test answers are not available for public inspection or review.
Score Banking: The score that you achieve on the examination shall be valid and banked for three years starting from the date of the examination. This means that during this three-year time period you will not be required to take this test again should you apply and be found eligible for a future announcement for which this particular test is used. If the test for this future announcement is held within 12 months of the date of this examination your score will be automatically applied to that announcement. However after 12 months you have the option to either (a) apply your test score to the other announcement or (b) re-take the test. Re-testing is permitted no sooner than 12 months from the date of the examination and only in association with your eligibility for another announcement for which this test is used. Please note that should you re-test your re-test score would become your official score going forward since it is the most recent (even if it turns out to be lower than your original score).
Eligible List/Score Report:
A confidential eligible list of applicant names that have passed the civil service examination process will be created and used for certification purposes only. An examination score report will be established so applicants can view the ranks final scores and number of eligible candidates. Applicant information including names of applicants on the eligible list shall not be made public unless required by law. However an eligible list shall be made available for public inspection upon request once the eligible list is exhausted or expired and referrals resolved. The eligible list/score report resulting from this civil service examination process is subject to change after adoption (e.g. as a result of appeals) as directed by the Human Resources Director or the Civil Service Commission.
