Major Duties and Responsibilities
As our Ocean Manager youll lead our import and export operations while driving excellence in service compliance and business growth. This role requires someone who takes ownership builds strong teams and collaborates across departments to deliver results.
Operations Management
Top responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Overseeing day-to-day ocean import and export activities to ensure compliance and service excellence.
- Ensuring accurate and timely data entry billing and documentation across all shipments.
- Driving continuous improvement in process efficiency and operational KPIs.
Team Leadership & Development
Top responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Coaching and developing a high-performing team through 1:1s feedback and regular performance reviews.
- Creating succession plans and identifying growth opportunities for team members.
- Promoting a culture of ownership collaboration and accountability.
Customer & Carrier Engagement
Top responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Acting as a point of contact for key customer escalations and service solutions.
- Managing service provider and carrier performance to ensure reliability and competitive pricing.
- Collaborating with account management to maintain and grow key relationships.
Business Development Support
Top responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Supporting joint sales efforts by participating in customer meetings and designing tailored solutions.
- Leading operational implementation for new business awards.
- Identifying product growth opportunities within existing accounts.
Compliance & Risk Management
Top responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Ensuring full adherence to global trade compliance and customs regulations.
- Leading corrective and preventative action (CAPA) initiatives.
- Conducting regular audits and training to uphold operational and regulatory standards.
P&L & Performance Oversight
Top responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Managing department costs profitability and productivity targets.
- Monitoring billing accuracy and revenue leakage.
- Partnering with Finance to ensure clean AR/AP and correct provisions.
Qualifications :
- 5 years of experience in international ocean freight forwarding with at least 3 years in a leadership or management role.
- Deep knowledge of FCL and LCL operations import/export compliance carrier management and customs processes.
- Proven success managing high-volume accounts implementing operational improvements and supporting new business implementations.
- Strong understanding of P&L ownership cost control pricing and financial metrics related to ocean operations.
- Experience leading cross-functional teams and coaching individuals to reach their full potential.
- Fluent written and spoken English is required. Additional languages are a plus.
- High integrity extreme ownership mindset and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced performance-driven environment.
- Familiarity with digital freight platforms KPI tracking tools and process automation is a strong plus.
