Job Description

We are working closely alongside a Local Authority in Preston to assist with the appointment of a HGV Waste Collection Driver on a 3-month contract highly likely to be extended at clients discretion. Please apply with your CV for immediate consideration.

Rate of Pay: 14.41 - 18.34 per hour

Summary:

We are seeking a reliable and experienced HGV Waste Collection Driver to join the Neighbourhood Services team at Preston City Council. The successful candidate will be responsible for driving heavy goods vehicles to undertake refuse and recycling collections across the city supervising a small team of loaders or other drivers and ensuring the safe efficient and timely completion of collection rounds. This is a physically demanding role requiring outdoor work in all weather conditions strong teamwork skills and a commitment to providing excellent service to the public.

Responsibilities:

  • Safely drive HGV vehicles for refuse and recycling collections including skip loaders.
  • Supervise and support a small team of loaders and/or drivers.
  • Operate automatic and manual refuse collection and recycling equipment.
  • Move empty and load wheeled bins food waste caddies refuse sacks and bulky items.
  • Collect and sort recyclable materials including paper glass cans and textiles.

Requirements:

  • Valid Category C (HGV Class 2) driving licence.
  • Valid CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence) and digital tachograph card.
  • Proven experience driving HGV vehicles ideally within a refuse or waste collection environment.
  • Ability to supervise and coordinate a small team.
  • Strong awareness of health and safety regulations in driving and waste operations.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to deal politely with the public.
  • Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions and undertake physically demanding tasks.
