Job Description

Reports To: Chief of Police

Duty Days: 238 Days

Wage/Hour Status: Exempt

Pay Grade: B07

Date Revised: 08-2025

Qualifications:

Texas Driver License

Peace Officer License and Advanced Peace Officer certificate from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement

Must have at least ten years experience as a Texas Peace Officer

Must have at least five years of successful supervisory experience

Katy ISD Lieutenant or equivalent position within a law enforcement agency of comparable size or larger

Graduated from the Law Enforcement Management Institute of Texas Leadership and Command College or equivalent (preferred)

Able to workday evening and night shifts with varied days off

Primary Purpose:

Under administrative direction oversee direct and supervise all activities of assigned bureau personnel. Provide law enforcement services where needed provide a positive adult presence among students and maintain an ongoing working relationship with other law enforcement personnel serving the school community.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Control the day-to-day activities of the assigned bureau.
  2. Provide direct supervision to all assigned bureau personnel.
  3. Evaluate the performance of all assigned bureau personnel.
  4. Make sound recommendations about personnel regarding selection placement transfer retention and dismissal.
  5. Enforce Board Policy and Administrative Regulations where applicable.
  6. Serve as a law enforcement resource to students and District personnel.
  7. Prepare and submit all required reports.
  8. Appear in court as a witness or complainant when needed.
  9. Provide a general and consistent adult and law enforcement presence at critical locations on District facilities and at District sponsored events.
  10. Respond to natural and man-made disasters such as hurricane tornado fire etc. (where District personnel are required).
  11. Through the standard chain of command inform the Assistant Chief of Police of all issues pertaining to the effective operation of the Police department.
  12. Other duties as assigned.

Equipment Used:

District vehicles alarm systems security equipment personal computer and associated software two-way communication equipment prisoner control devices firearms and less-lethal weapon systems.

Working Conditions:

Maintain emotional control under stress; strenuous walking standing and climbing ability to operate a motor vehicle; ability to control sudden violent or extreme physical acts of others; exhibit rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously; may be subject to adverse and hazardous working conditions including violent and armed confrontations; work outdoors in varying climate conditions; drive in different areas of district at odd hours; and may be on call 24 hours a day.
