Description
This position is primarily responsible for storing preparing sterilizing assembling and delivering supplies and equipment to designated area.
Central Sterile Stock Maintains adequate stock levels
- Inventories sterilization supplies and reports needed items to clerk for reorder in timely manner
- Checks all sterile instruments/trays for torn wrappers or other evidence impaired package integrity and re-sterilizes and replaces as needed
Decontamination Possesses responsibility for used and dirty supplies and equipment
- Retrieves used equipment and instruments from patient areas; cleans properly and places in designated areas
- Retrieves instruments/trays from OR and L&D in closed case carts and transports them to decontamination area in CS
- Places instruments in washer decontaminator and runs cleaning cycle according to manufacturers instructions
- Cleans instrument container and case carts according to CS policy
Processing Prepares and assembles supplies for sterilization
- Assembles wraps and labels all instruments/trays and prepares them for sterilization
- Labels all items with name initials of processor and date sterilized
- Uses correct wrap tape and indicators depending on method of sterilization to be used
- Correctly uses check sheets when assembling trays noting any deviation from items listed
Sterile and Clean area-Rotates and Stocks shelves and maintains area
- Checks for outdated items and torn wrappers; replaces as needed
- Stocks shelves and reports needed items to supervisor
Sterilization Ensures proper sterilization of equipment and supplies
- Performs Attest and Bowie Dick Test according to Central Service Policy
- List all items in sterilization log per load number and date sterilized
- Visually checks all items before placing in sterilizer for package integrity
- Unloads sterilizer after each completed load and prepares them for delivery or places in proper storage in CS
- Is knowledgeable and correctly adheres to event related sterilization policy
- Delivers items by covered cart to areas
Education:
A high school education and related hospital work experience is preferred.
Licensure/Certifications:
Must have current certification in Basic Life Support. CRCST (Certified Registered Central Service Technician) or CSPDT (Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician) or CST (Certified Surgical Technologist) preferred.
