CBC Podcasts produces a diverse collection of award-winning podcasts that engage enlighten and entertain. We are the #1 Canadian podcast publisher with more than 35 series in genres such as investigative documentary entertainment narrative storytelling and information.

CBC Podcasts is looking for a Senior Producer for our Audience Growth Hub. This position is for 12-months backfilling for a maternity leave. The target start date is Nov 3rd 2025 (Nov 3 2025-Nov 29 2026 )

You will report to the Senior Manager Audience Growth Hub.

Your Key roles and responsibilities include:

  • Provide leadership and feedback to 5-10 satellite producers working on various teams across the CBC. This includes setting and sharing best practices and tailored guidance for podcast discoverability to podcast producers and digital producers across EFS and News. This includes:

    • Social platforms: leveraging vertical video for effective brand awareness tracking content conversion

    • Shoulder content: creating or supporting the tactical creation of supplemental digital content (e.g. newsletters blog posts trailers 30-second promos)

    • Umbrella feeds: overseeing the release of different seasons underneath the banner of ongoing feeds (e.g. Understood Uncover Personally)

    • Audio on YouTube: Working with YouTube producers to adapt series for this growing platform (e.g. collaborating on thumbnails bespoke headlines etc)

    • Metadata (i.e. ensuring high quality series descriptions episode titling descriptions use of smart links in show notes etc.)

    • Outreach materials: create or support the creation of publicity materials including Novone pagers lookaheads episode guides etc.

  • Be among those accountable for the unit achieving its goals and objectives.

  • Run regular meetings of interested podcast producers looking to learn about audience-first best-practices data dissemination conversion from promos etc.

  • Make decisions in complex environments and lead staff in the use of program and production techniques and procedures.

  • Commission data debriefs and delegate presentation of results to teams/managers on an ongoing basis

  • Assigning and vetting the work of Coordinating Producers including writing metadata vertical video scripts and newsletter copy. (Scripting and editing)

  • Managing the performance of team members (including Interns). This includes the PMSD process.

  • Ensure all media produced meets the highest standards of editorial excellence and align with CBCs Journalistic Standards and Practices (JSP)

  • Support team development and on-going staff feedback.

  • Perform the function of duties of an equivalent or lower classification as required

Qualifications:

  • University degree in journalism or equivalent

  • 5 years experience with a minimum of three years of related digital journalism experience at a major media organization

  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams

  • Solid understanding of the larger podcast ecosystem and is an engaged podcast listener

  • Familiarity with CBC Podcasts mission

  • Proven ability to create engaging digital/social content using a variety of treatments

  • Understanding of and creativity around audience building strategy for a range of genres including narrative and true crime series

  • Excellence in using dominant social platforms including Facebook and Instagram

  • Strong communication skills (oral and written) and ability to communicate clearly and effectively about programming content and strategic issues

  • Experience with various technical platforms including photo and audio editing digital cameras live chats content management systems etc

  • A good understanding of our in-house audio upload tool and the knowledge to work with and speak about audio files specs upload requirements etc.

  • Knowledge of digital trends/strategies and ability to use metrics and analytics to inform and adjust strategy as needed

  • Self-starter and problem solver

  • Independent worker with ability to work collaboratively as needed

  • Great multi-tasking abilities time management skills and attention to detail

  • Strong organizational skills and adaptability to work with diverse individuals and team cultures

  • Ability to prioritize multiple demands work quickly and meet deadlines is essential

  • Knowledge of CBC journalistic standards and practices is necessary
