Position Summary

Under the direction of the Chief Engineer the Assistant Chief Engineer directs manages supervises and performs a variety of tasks related to the maintenance and operation of the Iowa Events Center. Directs/oversees a large team of engineers electrician(s) maintenance technicians and other specialists in the Engineering absence of the Chief Engineer this position will assume all Chief Engineer responsibilities.

This role pays an annual salary of $70000-$78000

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for services and activities involved in the maintenance and operations of IEC including but limited to HVAC electrical mechanical equipment arena equipment boiler plumbing ice management carpentry gas and grounds.
  • Using independent judgment interview select train motivate evaluate and make recommendations for engineering staff. Provide or coordinate training & safety programs; coach / mentor employees to correct deficiencies; implement and document discipline and termination proceedings
  • Responsible for coordination and communication of department scheduling to ensure proper event and facility maintenance coverage monitoring labor costs
  • Plan direct coordinate and review the work plan / orders for facility maintenance; including meeting with team to identify and troubleshoot equipment problems; assign work activities projects and programs; monitor workflow; review and evaluate work products methods and procedures
  • Act as a liaison between Dept. and Event Managers I.T. Production for event needs and make recommendations including but not limited to staffing electrical HVAC lighting plumbing.
  • Assist in the development administration and continued analysis of the Engineering budget; assist with forecasting any need for additional funds for staffing equipment materials and supplies; along with monitor expenditures; implement adjustments as necessary / directed
  • Order or approve the purchase supplies and materials within budget guidelines; maintain supplies
  • Regularly collaborate with Operations Admin to ensure timely processing of all schedule changes allocation updates budgetary tracking and Micromain reports.
  • Oversee and supervise preventative maintenance program Micromain to ensure equipment and building efficiency.
  • Ensure the department/team operates within all health and safety guidelines.
  • Effectively communicate work responsibilities timely in-person and in-writing creating a positive teamwork atmosphere. Listen and effectively respond to employee concerns complaints grievances as required.
  • Responsible for understanding complying with and supervising employees within parameters of any Collective Bargaining Agreement maintaining professional relations with any Union representatives.
  • Maintain hazardous materials communication program material safety data sheets and required records and permits for underground storage tanks and air quality guidelines; maintain knowledge of changes in pertinent federal state local OSHA regulations
  • Analyze energy usage and adjust demand levels as needed for proper energy efficiency to promote facility cost savings; report monthly trends make recommendations and educate staff on demand side management
  • Responsible for extensive knowledge and proficiency in energy management.
  • Employee must maintain excellent attendance work on-site and be available on-call in case of emergency
  • Provide excellent customer service to internal and external clients

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Five or more years experience in building maintenance; supervisory experience preferred
  • Specialized training or experience in the repair and maintenance of HVAC or related building systems
  • Possession of a first-class stationary engineers license; additional experience may be accepted in lieu of license.
  • Possession of universal CFC certification or ability to acquire
  • Knowledge of OSHA standards / requirements
  • Proficient computer user along with MS Word Excel Outlook use of a tablet internet-based programs and typing skills.
  • Ability to effectively be available via a company provided cell phone email text.
  • Excellent organizational skills comfortable multi-tasking & changing priorities and providing accurate information of precise details in a fast-paced environment
  • Possession of or ability to obtain a valid drivers license
  • Strong interpersonal skills; ability to communicate clearly concisely professionally in-person and in-writing
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule as required including long hours nights weekends and holidays
