Torch Technologies is seeking a Software Design Engineer/Systems Engineer to support the Air Force Research Laboratory Munitions Directorate Navigation and Controls Branch (AFRL/RWTAN) in its efforts to pioneer research in autonomous precision-guided air-to-air and air-to-ground munitions. The role is located on Eglin AFB selected candidate will be part of a Navigation and Estimation team utilizing highly technical and developmental payloads on-board an Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) to demonstrate navigation concepts for GPS-denied environments (e.g. Magnetic Vision Radio Frequency etc.) for single or multi-UAV system concepts. The qualified candidate must have strong oral and written communication skills. The ability to work collaboratively in group development sessions is a must. However motivation and dedication to project tasks in an independent environment are also necessary. The ideal candidate will work seamlessly with cross-functional teams to integrate varied goals and requirements ensure adherence to project timelines and actively contribute to achieving successful outcomes. Knowledge of various software and code development sources must be present. The candidate should have experience in one or more of the following programming languages: C/C python Java and others. Experience with Linux operating systems and Docker is also desired. Familiarity with network communication is desired. The candidates daily work affects the design testing implementation operation and support of the system; or the quality and reliability of services.
This position requires a highly motivated individual with experience to support the below essential duties:
The successful candidate will design develop troubleshoot and test software applications in support of mission data reprogramming.
The successful candidate will work with other mission data engineers and system users to develop requirements prepare validation and verification test plans and organize and participate in MD configuration control boards.
The successful candidate will collaborate effectively across cross-functional teams to align diverse requirements and objectives maintain project timelines and provide hands-on support to ensure successful goal completion.
Other duties will include:
Write code that supports the integration process.
Uncover inconsistencies that prevent the code from working as intended.
Develop documentation flowchart layout diagram etc.
Education:
Candidates must possess a bachelors degree in computer science or a related field such as mathematics science or engineering with at least 3 years of experience.
Requirements:
Candidates must have the potential ability to recognize and analyze problems conduct research summarize results and make appropriate recommendations.
Experience with Object Oriented Programming: C/Python.
Experience with GPS/IMU Integrated Navigation Systems and GPS Denied Navigation.
Familiarity with Linux OS and Docker.
Applicants must be a US citizen and be eligible for a Secret security clearance. Inability to obtain and maintain a security clearance will result in candidate being ineligible for this position.
Preferred Qualifications:
Masters degree in Computer Science Engineering or applicable technical field.
Comfortable with other peoples code: Reading Modifying Debugging and Optimizing.
Strong communication skills to convey results effectively in the English language both verbally and in writing is required. Must be able to discuss and understand requirements/taskings in dynamic environment.
Familiarity with GIT Configuration Management System.
Familiarity with ROS2.
Familiarity with Docker.
Familiarity with Factor Graphs and Pose Graph Optimization.
Ability to work in dynamic environments and support multiple users; good creative problem solver with a commitment to assisting the team in building quality software.
