AWC Staff Services are looking for a Controller of Site Safety (COSS) to work with their client atHeaton Traincare Depot.

As Controller of Site Safety (COSS) you will take part in the inspection maintenance and repair of railway lines or associated services on various Network Rail projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Establish and maintain safe systems of work in compliance with Network Rail and industry safety standards.
  • Conduct pre-work briefings to communicate hazards risks and safe working procedures.
  • Take responsibility for track safety including setting up and maintaining site protection measures.
  • Liaise with signallers Engineering Supervisors (ES) and other rail safety personnel to coordinate worksite safety.
  • Ensure compliance with Rule Book Handbook instructions and relevant standards.
  • Monitor site activities to ensure staff are working safely and challenge unsafe behaviour.
  • Keep accurate safety records worksite logs and documentation as required.
  • Report incidents near misses and safety concerns promptly.
  • Support the Site Manager and Project Team in fostering a strong safety culture.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of rail safety procedures and standards.
  • Excellent communication and briefing skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and make quick decisions under pressure.
  • Strong attention to detail with a focus on compliance and risk control.
  • Team leadership and coordination skills.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • ValidCOSS competence (Sentinel card).
  • PTS (Personal Track Safety).
  • Good understanding of the Network Rail Rule Book and rail safety regulations.
  • Experience working in a rail environment (maintenance construction or renewals).
  • Good level of physical fitness to meet rail industry standards.
  • Willingness to work nights weekends and shifts as required.

Start: ASAP
Duration: 6 weeks
Rate: 16-18 Per Hour
