PURPOSE: Reporting to the Childcare Manager Early Childhood Educators (ECE) will be responsible for ensuring a safe nurturing and stimulating environment that supports the physical emotional cognitive and social development of children from 12 months to 4 years of age. The ECE will plan and implement developmentally appropriate curriculum and foster positive relationships with children families and staff. These are full-time permanent positions that are required to work at the Lelumuylh Daycare Centre with minimal travel required.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: Cowichan Tribes offers an excellent benefit and pension plan available after successful completion of the probationary period. The position includes paid training paid vacation and paid sick leave. Depending on experience and qualification the position is compensated at:
ECE Assistant Certificate: $21.72-$23.03 per hour ($39531.42 - $41917.49 annually)
ECE Certificate Infant Toddle Certificate: $26.42-$28.02 per hour ($48086.89 - $50988.87 annually)
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Promote Safe Positive and Healthy Child Development
- Ensure Cowichan culture language values and traditions are integrated into program activities
- Adhere to all daycare licensing regulations health and safety standards and organizational policies
- Plan and implement engaging developmentally appropriate educational activities and experiences
- Create a safe and inclusive classroom environment that promotes learning and exploration
- Support programming that promotes the physical cognitive emotional and social development of children
- Provide appropriate support according to childs developmental needs to reach developmental goals
- Organize and deliver activities to engage children through literacy numeracy group activities and fieldtrips
- Distribute snacks and meals to children
- Monitor and assist children during meal times
- Support childs behavior in an positive manner
- Effectively communicate with supervisor other staff and parents as required
- Collaborate with other staff to ensure high-quality care and education
- Complete appropriate toileting of children which may include diaper changes
- Wash and organize laundry such as bedding and clothing
- Maintain a clean organized and child-friendly learning environment
- Complete additional light cleaning duties as needed
- Other related duties as required
Provide Administrative Support - Record daily activities and incidents in the communication book
- Assist parents in the daily sign-in and sign-out of children
- Document and notify supervisor immediately of any safety concerns
- Participate in staff meetings as scheduled
- Participate in ongoing professional development and training opportunities as required
- Other related duties as required
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: (please attach all required documents) - Early Childhood Education Assistant Certificate required
- Early Childhood Education Diploma and specialized certification(s) preferred
- Minimum 1 year daycare experience preferred
- Valid BC Drivers License and reliable vehicle an asset
- First Aid that includes Child Safe & Infant CPR certification required
- FOODSAFE Level 1 or equivalent required
- WHMIS certification preferred
- Criminal Record Check with vulnerable sector clearance required
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES: - Must be reliable and demonstrate sound work ethics
- Ability to work in a team and demonstrate a positive attitude
- Ability to work efficiently and effectively under minimal supervision
- Ability to maintain and uphold confidentiality in the workplace
- Well-developed written oral interpersonal skills and communication skills
- Strong organizational skills and time management skills with the ability to multitask
- Ability to meet physical demands of ECE duties: able to sit on the floor with full range of motion bend and stoop to meet childrens eye level long periods of standing & walking with the ability to lift up to 50lbs.
- Knowledge of child development theories and best practices in early childhood education
- Knowledge of Licensing regulations; ensuring Lelumuylh Daycare Centre meets all requirements on a daily basis
- Knowledge and understanding of Cowichan Tribes culture land traditions and the Hulquminum language or a willingness to learn
