Job Description

The Public Schools of Brookline is seeking a full-time music teacher to join our dynamic Conservatory program serving students in grades 4-8 across multiple schools. Were looking for a passionate and creative educator who can inspire a love of music and help students cultivate their talents. This role is perfect for a collaborative dedicated and skilled teacher who thrives on providing high-quality enriching experiences for students of all backgrounds and abilities. The ideal candidate will be committed to fostering an inclusive learning environment and nurturing a lifelong passion for music in our students.

Key Responsibilities

  • Instruction: Teach a variety of instrumental and general music classes including:

    • 4th wind brass and percussion classes.

    • 5th grade band.
    • 6th-8th grade mixed-grade band classes.

    • Possibly teach oneor more 6th-8th grade Conservatory electives such as Music Production Guitar/Ukulele Ensemble or Music Exploration.

  • Curriculum & Classroom Management:

    • Adapt and follow a curriculum that aligns with state standards while meeting the diverse needs of students.

    • Differentiate instruction to support all learners.

    • Maintain safe and organized classroom spaces including setting up and breaking down equipment for instrumental classes.

  • Collaboration:

    • Work effectively with colleagues in the Performing Arts Department and the broader school community.

    • Attend department meetings and participate in school-wide activities.

    • Build positive relationships with students families and staff.

What Were Looking For

Required Qualifications

  • Experience teaching and/or performing instrumental music specifically with wind brass and/or percussion instruments.

  • The ability to differentiate instruction and use various assessment methods.

  • Strong classroom management communication and organizational skills.

  • A commitment to creating an inclusive and culturally responsive learning environment.

  • A collaborative spirit and a growth mindset with the ability to reflect on your practice and accept feedback.

  • Willingness to travel between multiple school buildings throughout the day.

  • Massachusetts DESE Music Teacher certification.

  • A Bachelors degree.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A Masters degree.

  • Interest in directing a town-wide band (an additional stipend is available for this role).

Additional notes

  • If you have additional instrument experience such as on string instruments and/or orchestra that is welcome.
  • This position requires traveling daily between multiple schools within the Public Schools of Brookline. We proved mileage reimbursement for travel between schools.
