Position Overview
The Marketing and Communications Manager is a key leadership role within the Advancement Division at Western Nevada College. Reporting to the Chief Advancement Officer this position ensures the daily execution of integrated marketing and communications efforts including advertising media relations digital campaigns creative content and event support. The Marketing and Communications Manager directly supervises the Public Information Officer and Digital Content Producer as well as provides oversight for a Part-Time Copy Center Specialist. This position ensures delivery of strategic messaging web and social media content and promotional materials aligned with institutional goals. This position requires strong project leadership exceptional writing and media skills and the ability to contribute hands-on during staff absences or high-volume periods. The role also requires proficiency in AI tools and web content management skills including familiarity with content management systems (CMS) basic HTML/CSS and user experience best practices to ensure continuity of operations and enhance team performance. The Marketing and Communications Manager serves on the colleges Enrollment Committee and contributes to efforts that support enrollment growth
Job Duties
Strategic Implementation & Oversight
Ensure strategic direction and operational execution of the colleges integrated marketing and communications initiatives working collaboratively with college leadership and Advancement staff to implement plans that support institutional goals
Provide leadership and editorial oversight to the Public Information Officer to ensure public messaging press release scheduling and media outreach align with institutional tone and strategic objectives
Ensure strategic alignment and operational oversight of website content working with the Digital Content Producer to deliver timely accurate and accessible updates that reflect institutional priorities
Monitor campaign performance and generate reports on key metrics to inform continuous improvement demonstrate impact and support data-driven decision-making
Manage the modest marketing budget aligning expenditures with institutional priorities and available resources. This role requires a creative and resourceful approach to producing high-impact campaigns and strategic initiatives within a lean financial framework
Ensure the colleges professional standards and voice are upheld by applying strong writing and editorial skills across all formats including reports messaging and campaigns
Manage production calendars timelines and campaign coordination to ensure efficiency and clarity across platforms
Lead the responsible integration of AI tools for writing design automation and analytics to improve the marketing teams quality efficiency and reach. Train and support team members in their ethical and effective use
Team Leadership & Continuity
Directly supervise the Public Information Officer and Digital Content Producer as well as provide oversight for a part-time Copy Center Specialist
Assign tasks monitor deadlines hold weekly check-ins and conduct annual evaluations
Provide operational oversight of the part-time Copy Center Specialist
Function as a working manager actively engaging in day-to-day execution of deliverables alongside the team in a lean high-output environment
Coordinate execution of urgent or emergency communications as needed
Serve as a cross-trained backup for both the Digital Content Producer and Public Information Officer during absences or vacancies including support for web updates social media and public messaging
Advertising Vendor and Creative Services
Serve as the colleges primary liaison with contracted advertising agencies graphic designers and photographers
Coordinate development and delivery of digital and traditional ad campaigns in line with strategic objectives
Oversee quality control brand consistency and on-time delivery of creative assets
Internal Campaigns and Program Support
Provide responsive marketing and communication support to academic departments student services and internal administrative units
Collaborate with team members to deliver promotional materials graphics and campaigns tailored to internal initiatives
Support select grant-funded programs as assigned by translating objectives into compelling outreach strategies aligned with institutional brand and funder requirements
Serve as a member of Western Nevada Colleges Enrollment Committee and provide marketing expertise for initiatives aimed at increasing student recruitment and retention
Event and Public Engagement
Lead team efforts to support College and Foundation events with engaging promotion including advertising placement in outside media webpage design social media posts development of marketing materials and arranging photography for marketing use. Leverage donor activity and events to create sound public relations and visibility opportunities for the college. Participate in Advancement Team event support as directed
Contribute to the activation of high-profile donor student and community engagement initiatives by developing supporting marketing materials social media messaging and public relations activities that increase visibility and reinforce institutional goodwill
Serve as the primary media contact for the college delivering clear and consistent messaging to represent the institutions values mission and priorities
Act as the face of the college at press conferences media interviews and public events maintaining a professional and positive image
Deliver public statements press releases and responses to media inquiries ensuring timely and accurate communication
Develop and maintain strong relationships with local regional and national media outlets to proactively promote the colleges achievements programs and initiatives
Represent the college at public functions community events and in interviews using strategic communication skills to build trust enhance the institutions reputation and address public concerns
Additional Responsibilities
Perform additional tasks and responsibilities as delegated by the Chief Advancement Officer to support departmental or institutional priorities
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelors degree and four years of related professional experience; OR
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted for the Bachelors degree (i.e. AA5 yrs of professional experience). A minimum of an Associates degree is required.
Preferred Qualifications
Three years of supervisory experience
Strong skills in web content social media advertising workflows and project management
Proficiency in web CMS HTML/CSS basics SEO digital signage and email marketing
Strong writing and editing skills with the ability to craft professional communications for both public audiences and the media
Demonstrate strong knowledge of both digital advertising solutions and local/regional media outlets to develop integrated marketing strategies that maximize visibility and reach across diverse audiences
Ability to represent the college professionally in media interactions
Ability to manage creative vendors and ensure brand alignment
Familiarity with analytics platforms in order to produce clear month-end reporting
Knowledge of ethical AI use
Skills in effective AI integration and ability to coach staff in AI use and integration
Outstanding verbal written and interpersonal communication skills
Ability to balance multiple priorities and pivot as needed in a fast-paced environment
Minimum Starting Salary Information:
This position is at a salary grade D. The minimum of the placement range is $94881.02. The selected candidate will be placed at or above the minimum based on education and experience. WNCs placement range falls within the NSHE salary schedule: NSHE ADMINISTRATIVE SALARY SCHEDULE

Faculty and staff who have previously participated in the Public Employees Retirement System of Nevada (PERS) may be required to continue participation in PERS.
The Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) does not participate in the federal Social Security System but does contribute to the federal Medicare program. This means that while you are employed by NSHE neither you nor NSHE contribute to Social Security and you do not earn a Social Security benefit.
