Description

NRC has been present in Nigeria since 2015 and has been working to help displacement-affected communities meet their basic needs improve their livelihoods access essential services and enhance their resilience to future shocks through our six core competencies: water sanitation and hygiene (WASH) Shelter Education Information-Counselling and Legal Assistance (ICLA) Livelihoods and Food Security (LFS) Camp Management and Protection. NRC provides immediate assistance during the onset of emergencies through the rapid response mechanism (RRM). With a workforce of 370 staff and a presence in key locations such as Maiduguri (in Borno State) Yola (in Adamawa State) and Jos (in Plateau State) NRC can respond to the needs of those affected by the conflict across North-East and North Central Nigeria.

These strategic locations have allowed NRC greater reach from the north and south parts of the North-East and North Central region and allowed NRC to contribute to bridging the gap between humanitarian aid and development cooperation including by focusing on equitable access to basic services and strengthening the rights of displaced people and addition to the Country Office and the above-mentioned Area Offices NRC has sub-office structures in Monguno Mubi Pulka and Gwoza.

If you are those people the Norwegian Refugee Council in Nigeria is looking for an enthusiastic and passionate Livelihoods and Food Security Technical Assistantto join our team in Jos Plateau State. The Livelihoods and Food Security Technical Assistant will assist in the day-to-day implementation of the Food Security projects in Plateau State.



Responsibilities

Specific responsibilities

  • Together with LFS Officers the LFS Technical Assistants will be responsible for the implementation of livelihoods and food security activities on the field. Agriculture support Income Generation Activities (IGAs) VSLAs Cash for work (CfW) activities and livestock production and management.
  • Support and carry out identification and registration of vulnerable households as project participants for all project interventions in close collaboration with the LFS Technical Officer.
  • Ensure equal representation of various community groups in the implementation of LFS activities.
  • Participate in designing and conducting Livelihood technical assessments to determine the most viable income-generating activities.
  • Mobilize and sensitize communities and community leaders about project activities whilepromoting community participation and inclusion as to encourage community ownership over activities implemented.
  • Prepare check the quality and accuracy and submit project documents (participants lists reports MoVs etc.) timely while ensuring proper archiving/filling of the document.
  • Facilitate and monitor the distribution process of LFS input kits according to procedures ensuring accountability and transparency.
  • Provide weekly field reports capturing activities progress success stories lessons learned as well as general situation and community updates and needs.
  • Supervise train and monitor community-based workers community volunteers and survey enumerators.
  • Coordinate with relevant stakeholders and partners in training project participants on small-scale business income-generating activities livestock production and management and climate-smart agriculture.
  • Explore and facilitate the introduction of new technology methods and approaches to improve the quality of the activities
  • Adhere to all NRC policies and procedures Donor requirements as outlined in NRC guidelines.
  • Coordinate with humanitarian actors working in the same implementation areas with NRC.


Qualifications
  • BSC HND Economics Agricultural Economics Social Sciences or related
  • Minimum of two years in related position
  • Experience and understanding of Selection Planning and Management (SPM) of Income Generating Activities (IGAs).
  • Experience in beneficiary skills trainings and distribution of conditional business grants or small business startup kits.
  • Experience in agricultural livelihoods (crop and livestock production) value chain addition and Cash and Voucher Assistance.
  • Previous experience working in complex and volatile contexts
  • Knowledge of the context in Plateau state.
  • Ability to work under pressure independently and with limited supervision
  • Highest standard of ethics and integrity
  • Ability to work in insecure environments
  • High level of Communication skills with courtesy and respect.
  • Ability to speak one additional local language preferred.
