The Office of the Attorney General is seeking an attorney to initiate and lead investigations into potential patterns or practices of deprivations of constitutional and statutory rights by government agencies as well as monitor compliance with ongoing consent decrees. We are looking for an attorney who wants to lead civil rights investigations and who can effectively communicate with attorneys law enforcement personnel and members of the community. WHAT YOU WILL DO

The Pattern or Practice attorney will conduct investigations to determine whether government agencies have engaged in patterns or practices that deprive persons of the rights protected by state or federal laws. This may include looking at concerns of excessive force biased policing discrimination victims rights and other statutory and constitutional addition this attorney will monitor compliance with consent decrees often working with independent monitors.


The attorney in this role will research federal and state law and conduct thorough and independent investigations that could bring to light patterns or practices of rights deprivations by government agencies. The attorney will then evaluate whether unlawful patterns or practices exist and if so determine the source of the pattern or practice and work with the agency to correct those issues through a consent decree other remedies to eliminate the violations of law or sometimes file suit against the agency to seek an injunction correcting the violation.


This recruitment may be used to fill more than one Assistant Attorney General position in the Civil Rights Unit.

Salary Note: The Department of Law uses a wage progression compensation model. Although a salary range is listed salary will be set commensurate with the successful candidates qualifications and in compliance with the Equal Pay for Equal Work Act.


Attorneys with less than 3 years of experience as a practicing attorney will be hired as an Assistant Attorney General I (AAG I). The salary range for an AAG I is $88197-$96554/annually.

Attorneys with more than 3 years of experience practicing as an attorney may be hired as an Assistant Attorney General II (AAG II). The AAG II salary range is $102099-$136558/annually.

Salary will be paid on a biweekly basis.

Qualified applicants must be admitted to the Colorado Bar or be clearly eligible to waive into the Colorado Bar and be in good standing at the time of application. Candidates eligible to waive into the Colorado Bar will be required to submit proof of their completed application and application for Practice Pending Admission before the first day of employment.
