About the Role

This hybrid role combines the technical expertise of a Media Technician with the expanded creative capabilities needed for todays multi-platform content environment. The position is responsible for camera operation audio recording and mixing video editing and podcast production as well as preparing and distributing content for WHYYs digital and social platforms. The Multimedia Production Technician works across studio field and post-production environments to support both broadcast and digital-first initiatives ensuring technical excellence and brand consistency.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Field & Studio Production

  • Operate cameras (studio and field) including Sony FS-7 Sony Alpha/Fx platforms and DSLR systems as well as steadicams gimbals and drones (FAA Part 107 license preferred).

  • Record and mix audio for both field and studio productions ensuring quality standards for broadcast and digital distribution.

  • Troubleshoot equipment in the field and studio to maintain production continuity.

  • Operate production equipment during shoots including travel to various locations.

Post-Production & Editing

  • Edit video content using Avid Media Composer and Adobe Premiere; apply graphics and animations using Adobe Creative Suite.

  • Edit full-length podcast interviews enhance audio quality and prepare episodes for publishing.

  • Mix audio add music and sound design and integrate graphics for Studio 2 and other productions.

  • Maintain file organization backups and version control for all media assets.

Digital & Social Media Content

  • Prepare and publish edited video and audio content for WHYYs social media accounts including Facebook Instagram YouTube TikTok and LinkedIn.

  • Optimize content for digital platforms using best practices for aspect ratios runtimes captions and metadata.

  • Collaborate with producers and the Audience Engagement Team to deliver platform-specific versions of content.

Collaboration & Workflow

  • Assist Studio 2 by contributing to video production and post-production including graphics editing and social cutdowns.

  • Collaborate with producers in shaping editorial pitches into technically sound video concepts.

  • Book and organize shoots and crews with budget awareness and efficiency.

  • Maintain proficiency in emerging production technologies and digital publishing tools.

Other Duties

  • Support third-party production partners as needed.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education: High School Diploma required; media or related field preferred or equivalent professional experience.

Experience: Minimum 4 years in camera operation audio recording/mixing and lighting for field/studio. Demonstrated experience editing and preparing content for digital/social media distribution. Experience with podcast editing and multi-platform publishing preferred.

Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in Sony FS-7 DSLR Sony Alpha/Fx Avid Media Composer Adobe Premiere and Adobe Creative Suite.

  • Strong audio capture mixing and post-production skills.

  • Familiarity with social media video standards and optimization.
