Work Schedule: Day Shift Monday-Friday. This is a casual/prn position. Casual employees work on an as needed basis to meet the needs of the business. Shifts may vary from week to week.

Responsibilities:
Essential Job Functions
1. Develops implements maintains and evaluates a comprehensive Nutritional Services Program for the Cancer Center.
- Develops a process for patient assessment for nutritional consults.
- Implements the identified process.
- Maintains the process and seeks ways to improve.
- Evaluates the process and makes necessary changes to achieve desired outcomes.
- Works collaboratively with Methodist Cancer Centers Multidisciplinary Team to develop this program.
2. Develops the Nutrition Services overall department program.
- Develops goals creates a vision.
- Develops a marketing plan.
3. Provides nutrition education to patients and caregivers to facilitate compliance with the policy for Oncology nutrition Services at MECC.
- Nutrition education for Oncology patients complies with referrals and meets accepted standards for care.
- Acts as a credible resource to the physicians and staff of Methodist Cancer Center.
4. Participates in ongoing review and revision of nutrition education to provide updated resources for all clinical care using current research and published professional standards.
- Evaluates and utilizes evidence-based peer reviewed educational materials for patients staff and community.
- Additional educational resources are researched reviewed and utilized appropriately.
- Community education for clients families and staff supports improved patient outcomes.
5. Utilizing basic assessment data individual will plan integrated nutritional intervention for patients to maximize status per approved standards of care.
- Consults nationally developed evidence based practice guidelines (ANDs Oncology MNT Evidence-Based Guides for Practice) for appropriate values and interventions.
- Integrates best available research with clinical/managerial expertise and client values.
6. Patient satisfaction is our primary goal.
- Written and verbal commendations from clients and staff convey excellence in patient care.
- Performance Improvement is measured and reported to Cancer Committee and/or Service Executive.
- Proactive in developing quality improvements/quality assurance protocols as they relate to nutrition and healthcare.
7. Works collaboratively and professionally with others in particular the Methodist Cancer Center and Methodist Hospital departments.
- Participates in RD system in-services meetings/processes as applicable.
- Assesses the need for change and adapts accordingly.
- Proactively seeks ways to improve interdepartmental relationships to ultimately improve patient outcomes.
8. Nutrition Ambassador with Harpers Hope.
- Participates as Nutrition Ambassador for Harpers Hope Program.
- Works collaboratively and professionally with other Harpers Hope Ambassadors and other support staff.
- Assists in the development implementations and evaluation of Harpers Hope comprehensive cancer survivor-ship services and programs.
9. Promotes a culture of safety.
- Assures compliance with The Joint Commission National Patient Safety Goals.
- Monitors on an ongoing basis environmental safety issues and appropriate interventions.
- Assures completion and follow-up on Variance Reports and Patient/Family concerns.
- Participates in identification analysis reduction and evaluation of risk issues.
- Reports issues/trends to Service Executive.

Job Requirements
Education
- Bachelors of Science (BS) in Nutrition or Dietetics required.
- Masters Degree in Dietetics preferred.
Experience
- 2 years clinical experience with patients throughout the aging continuum required.
- Prefer 2 years or 2000 hours of practice experience as Registered Dietitian (RD) in oncology specialty area within the last 5 years.
- Experience in health promotion and program development is required.
- Experience in working with media and nutrition writing preferred.
License/Certifications
- Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics/CDR required.
- Licensed Medical Nutrition Therapist (LMNT) required.
- Board Certified Specialist in Oncology Nutrition (CSO) preferred.
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
- Ability to work independently with minimal direction.
- Must demonstrate competency in mathematics skills and medical terminology.
