The City of Abbotsford is seeking a qualified Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator II to support the efficient operation of the J.A.M.E.S. Wastewater Treatment Plant. Reporting to the Operator Leadhand and Plant Manager this role involves technical and skilled work in operating and maintaining the facility to the highest standards of safety and efficiency.

As a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator II you will be responsible for the technical and skilled work pertaining to the operations and maintenance of the J.A.M.E.S Wastewater Treatment Plant while assisting your team in the overall achievement of efficient operation of the wastewater treatment facility. This position requires thorough knowledge of secondary wastewater treatment chlorination and dechlorination principles and practices wastewater analysis procedures and the ability to interpret laboratory data and test results for efficient plant operations

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of wastewater treatment processes chlorination and dechlorination systems and safety protocols. You should possess knowledge of hydraulics engineering math physics and waste chemistry along with experience in pumps compressors boilers and control systems. Proficiency in using hand and power tools testing equipment and data recording systems is essential. Effective communication skills the ability to respond to emergencies with sound judgment and a collaborative approach to working with colleagues and the public are key to success in this role.

Education & Certification Requirements:

  • Grade 12 or Equivalency (GED)
  • EOCP Level II (Wastewater Treatment)
  • 3 years experience in secondary wastewater treatment operations
  • EOCP Chlorine Handler Certificate
  • Occupational First Aid Level 1 (Level 2 within 6 months if required)
  • Valid BC Class 5 Drivers Licence (Class 3 may be required)


This position is unionized CUPE Local 774 and the hourly rate of pay is from $34.31 to $40.34 per addition the City of Abbotsford offers a comprehensive benefits package.
