REPOWER Design Engineer

Location: Glasgow

Salary from 53280 - 66600 per year (dependant on experience) plus strong benefits package and extensive career progression opportunities.

Role

You will drive the design and development of the cutting-edge project REPOWER A multimillion pound world-first initiative unlocking the potential of Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) like wind hydro biomass or batteries to contribute to the restoration of the network following a system restoration (Blackstart) event with a view to get customers back online far quicker than using traditional methods. Furthermore involves the implementation of advanced Distribution

Restoration Zone (DRZ) automation monitoring and control that can build power islands restore power to customers and ultimately resynchronise with the intact grid in a highly automated manner.

As a REPOWER Design Engineer you will be responsible for design activities across the three SP Energy Networks Distributed Restoration Zones and will coordinate all relevant resources to author the technical specifications/ outputs needed to enable operational delivery within the zones.

What youll be doing

To design and develop deliverable projects up to 33kV typically to the value of circa 20m per project zone along with associated unit volumes to support the annual delivery outputs of the district.

Responsible for the regulatory aspects of Project REPOWER design requests ensuring that processes and reporting arrangements are in place to meet the regulatory project and licence requirements.

Derive the scope volumes and unit costs to exploit best value from the REPOWER contract

Integrate asset stewardship values through sound engineering principles coordinated planning design and ownership to improve integrity safety and longevity of the electrical network whilst providing minimum scheme costs for customer connections.

To drive continual performance improvement through analysis of outputs and feedback from internal and external sources.

Consider the application of innovative solutions to all designs whether this be technological procedural or commercial and apply them if deemed beneficial

To produce designs in accordance with unit or authorised prime costs to enable efficient delivery of project REPOWER outputs at all times.

Develop and maintain robust stakeholder and customer/contractor relationships on behalf of Scottish Power to facilitate delivery of project and stakeholder strategic objectives.

Promote an exemplary safety culture and ensures that all safety legislation is implemented and delivered through all activities and incorporated into project designs.

To develop the skills knowledge and behaviours amongst the team through the mentoring and training of less experienced team members graduates and trainees.

Technical and operational experience in a relevant engineering role.

Ability to devise solutions to complex problems/challenges.

Developed skills with network analysis modelling tools.

What youll bring

Expert knowledge of design standards up to 33kV.

Expert knowledge of the regulatory environment including relevant output and incentive mechanisms.

General commercial awareness with the ability to balance customer service efficient network design ensuring maximum return on investment.

Proven track record of effective stakeholder and customer service engagement and management.

Ability to communicate and present information effectively at all levels

Ability to manage competing priorities using sound engineering and financial judgement to determine optimal solutions

Awareness and understanding of key business drivers and the external commercial context in which ScottishPower is operating

Minimum Requirements

  • Engineering/Professional qualification or equivalent experience

  • Experience in a Network Design role where exposure to 33kV (is not essential but advantageous)

  • Relevant network construction and operational experience

  • Computer literacy
