The Welder/Fitter will be responsible for performing arc welding TIG welding MIG welding and working with various materials to fabricate and assemble structural components.
Qualifications
- GMAW (Gas Metal Arc Welding) FCAW (Flux Core Arc Welding) GTAW (Gas Tungsten Arc Welding) or SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc Welding)
- Experience in Welding and working with different materials
- Knowledge of MIG Welding techniques
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints
- Experience in shipbuilding or marine industry is a plus
- NAVSEA certification or equivalent qualification
Principal Responsibilities:
- Use tools such as: a plasma cutter welder cutting torches chop saw grinders punches tape measures drills air arcs and other power tools.
- Operates and/or uses equipment such as: forklifts hoists slings and other heavy equipment.
- Performs welding duties using GMAW (Gas Metal Arc Welding) FCAW (Flux Core Arc Welding) GTAW (Gas Tungsten Arc Welding) or SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc Welding) in all positions of various metals and alloys.
- Fit and weld metal components with welding equipment as specified by procedures layouts blueprints diagrams work orders or oral instructions. Welds range from simple tacks to complex welds performed in varying positions.
- Fit and weld metal parts to repair marine vessels and other marine equipment.
- Regularly push and pull large sheets of metal in order to place them in proper position for cutting and welding.
- Perform math functions in standard and metric such as read tape measure; take measurements mark materials add/subtract simple fractions and metric measurements.
- Set-up lay out work and use fixtures and guides for repairs or modifications.
- Maintain assigned work areas in a clean and orderly fashion.
- Maintain and ensure the safety of all assigned equipment.
- Maintains level of work performance in accordance with standards and/or job order specifications
- Maintains a safe working environment by complying with procedures rules and regulations.
- Operate machinery in a safe and productive manner.
- Able to perform additional shipyard duties as assigned by supervisor.
