Job Description

Job Summary

The Baccalaureate of Science in Nursing (BSN) Program Directors responsibilities center on continued development implementation and evaluation of the Peavy School of Nursing (PSON) BSN program managing both the operations and essential collaborative relationships essential to the programs quality and outcomes.

Mission/Philosophy

1. Assure all undergraduate studies initiatives further the PSON mission philosophy and framework and the mission of the University of St. Thomas (UST).

2. Monitor integration of PSON philosophy and framework in undergraduate studies.

3. Facilitate the conditions and relationships that support PSON development as a holistic learning community

Key Role Functions

1. In collaboration with the Division Dean of Undergraduate Programs hire full-time and adjunct faculty for didactic and clinical learning experiences and supervise faculty.

2. Complete annual performance appraisal for full-time didactic faculty in BSN program.

3. Monitor and evaluate adjunct didactic faculty performance.

4. Monitor BSN program policies handbooks and UST catalog entries to provide clear and effective support for the program.

5. Oversee course schedule planning course implementation and management.

6. Facilitate BSN curriculum development implementation and evaluation in collaboration with the Division Dean of Undergraduate Programs nursing faculty and staff.

7. Assure BSN curriculum integration of PSON philosophy and framework and the Ethical and Religious Directives of the Catholic Health Care Services.

8. In collaboration with the Division Dean of Undergraduate Programs manage processes related to program maintenance i.e. schedules teaching assignments collaborations on campus and with clinical agencies.

9. Facilitate negotiations for clinical engagement of BSN students ensuring advocacy for clinical agency concerns and commitments.

10. Oversee the faculty advising process for BSN students and support faculty in resolving problems/issues related to student academic performance.

11. Oversee the students successful progression through the BSN program including admission progression retention and completion.

12. Assume a teaching workload that balances teaching and administrative duties.

13. Accountable for assuring that each faculty member/visiting professor/adjunct clinical faculty member is oriented to the BSN program objectives and completes all course preparation including all clinical learning experiences.

14. Participates in Peavy School of Nursing strategic planning process and contributes to the achievement of institutional goals and objectives related to on-line and distance programs.

15. Participates in program evaluation and assists in the process of compiling program data for accreditation and other official constituents.

16. Collaborates with the Division Dean of Undergraduate Programs on hiring full-time and adjunct faculty within the mission vision and culture of the PSON and UST .

17. Serve as PSON liaison with university departments responsible for academic and student services for BSN students.

18. Participate in service for the PSON and university through committees and official meetings.

19. Participate in the exploration of teaching as a scholarly activity through engagement in publication presentation and reflection.

Qualifications:

1. Hold an unencumbered license to practice as a Registered Nurse in Texas.

2. Holds a minimum masters degree in nursing and preferably a doctorate in nursing or related field.

3. Has a minimum of five years of teaching experience in a professional nursing educational program.

4. Demonstrates knowledge skills and abilities in management within a professional nursing educational program.

5. Has an attention to detail is organized and is innovative.

6. Is familiar with professional nursing educational requirements and processes in Texas.

7. Demonstrates strong collegial leadership qualities.

8. Shows a commitment to and demonstrated excellence in teaching and learning.

9. Is certified or willing to achieve certification in one or more nursing specialties.

10. Provides evidence of participation in professional community and/or Christian service organizations.

11. Has experience in higher education including accreditation program review assessment and evaluation.

12. Has experience in program development curriculum design informatics communications systems and teaching in nursing.

13. Has experience in simulation education and simulation best practices.

14. Has a record of professional activities
