Job Duties:

Wilson Rehabilitation Center is seeking a Campus Life Associate - Recreation. The purpose of this position is to engage with clients and other rehabilitation team members to create a safe clean and supportive residential/recreational experience throughout the entire Campus Life Division environment.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Provide appropriate documentation according to center/department standards including safety and accident reports behavior incident reports monthly programming and activity; completes WWRC training and professional training.
  • Attends participates and consults in staff committee treatment team and interdisciplinary team meetings as needed; participates in ongoing quality improvement activities as requested to enhance systems and improve quality as needed.
  • Assists in the maintenance of current inventory through general housekeeping/storage of recreational supplies and repair/replacement of lost and broken items and provides programming and participates during emergency closings as an essential staff member.

Minimum Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Valid Virginia drivers license.
  • Familiarity with recreational programming or ability to learn.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to work with individuals with disabilities staff and external partners.
  • Ability to positively engage with individuals with disabilities.
  • Basic understanding of:
    • Program planning and event coordination
    • Customer service and communication strategies

Knowledge/Experience:

  • Knowledge and skills or ability to develop skills to facilitate activities relevant to physical social spiritual emotional and cognitive domain areas.
  • Knowledge to implement on-going recreation programs and skill development with the ability to focus on team sports around games sports and athletics outdoor recreation community outings special events etc.
  • Knowledge of confidentiality and boundary issues.
  • Knowledge of safety awareness in a recreational setting.
  • Knowledge of the Campus Life Divisions Residential Housing environment(s) and expectation(s) for coverage as needed.
  • Knowledge and experience with Restorative Practices/ Restorative Justice.
  • Experience in Working with Individuals with a Variety of Disabilities in a Recreation or Rehabilitation Setting Including Teaching and instruction on skill development.
  • Knowledge and experience with Restorative Practices/ Restorative Justice

Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to foster a safe clean and supportive environment promoting positive social interpersonal and self-management skills encouraging opportunities to learn needed skills to promote and enhance personal independence.
  • Basic activity skills knowledge of concepts and practices of community recreation and
    wellness.
  • Skills in assessing individual and group needs and ability to plan and implement programs to meet those needs.
  • Ability to relate positively to people with disabilities and knowledge of disabilities served.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Good organization/time management skills.
  • Good basic computer skills

Additional Considerations:

  • Fitness certification.
  • Experience lifeguarding or working in an aquatic setting.
  • Experience in a recreational setting.
  • Experience working with individuals with a variety of disabilities in a recreation &/or rehabilitation setting (May include coaching or teaching).
