About the Team
The Experience Development team is responsible for shaping how people interact with and feel our products. We study human variation capture data and turn insights into designs that fit function and feel right. Our work bridges anatomy design and engineering to ensure products meet real human needs.
About the Role
OpenAI is looking for a Human Fit & Ergonomics Specialist to capture model and analyze human variation. Youll use 3D scanning geometry tools and ergonomic methods to transform complex data into insights that guide product design. This role is hands-on rigorous and creativeranging from building anthropometry libraries to collaborating with designers engineers and vendors on practical solutions.
This role is based in San Francisco CA and requires being onsite 4 days a week in the office.
In this role you will:
Scan landmark align and generate 3D geometry of human forms
Analyze fit and comfort combining quantitative metrics with qualitative feedback
Determine which shapes and forms work across diverse populations
Build and maintain a library of anthropometry and ergonomic profiles
Translate ambiguous requests into actionable insights and prototypes
Communicate insights through visuals reports and storytelling
Partner with designers engineers and vendors to refine ideas
Collaborate closely with the Experience Development team
You might thrive in this role if you:
Have a strong background in biomechanics ergonomics human factors or a related field
Bring experience with 3D scanning printing and geometry tools (CAD software MeshLab MATLAB R Python etc.)
Are comfortable blending qualitative human feedback with quantitative data
Can communicate effectively with both designers and engineers
Are responsive to aesthetic considerations and design thinking
Value healthy constructive feedback practices
Bonus points if you have:
Experience with ergonomic standards and evaluation frameworks
Prior work on consumer products where human fit and comfort were critical
