ABOUT THE STUDENTS UNION
The University of Alberta Students Union (UASU) is the official student-run organization for undergraduates at the University of Alberta. We aim to improve the student experience through the services events and spaces that we provide. We also provide advocacy on behalf of students within the university community and to all levels of government.
ABOUT SAFEWALK
Safewalk is your safe and free alternative to walking home alone at night. Our
wonderful volunteers accompany you when youre on campus late and not
comfortable getting home alone! Theyll accompany you up to a 20 minute walk
from most LRT stations and pretty far from campus by foot.
Want to Volunteer with Safewalk
Safewalk volunteers contribute on average 3 hours a week and are expected
to be outside and active during their shifts with a fellow patroller. There are
other skill building opportunities and fun events that volunteers can choose to
take part in as well as plenty of snacks during shifts!
Our volunteers always have the flexibility to pick their own shift slots and we offer study shifts during busy times like exam season - where you get volunteer hours while getting some valuable time to study! We can also modify your contract on a case-by-case basis in case you cant fulfill 3 hours per week.
Safewalk is a great way to meet new people and get experience for your
resume as well as get involved in the community. Its also an awesome study
break and a good way to get some exercise if you prefer patrolling options
(one Safewalk shift can burn about 800 calories!). Safewalk also believes that
no one should walk home alone so when youre done with your shift we will
make sure that you yourself get home safely!
