| Duties & Responsibilities | Summary: About VCU Continuing and Professional Education and LEDstudio VCU Continuing and Professional Education (VCU CPE) in partnership with the colleges and schools at Virginia Commonwealth University provides and supports quality continuing and professional education and skills training for individual local regional and national impact. VCU Continuing and Professional Education harnesses the power of VCU including more than 3300 instructional faculty and adjunct instructors an academic medical center and long-standing community relationships to create the best learning opportunities available to nontraditional adult learners. VCU LEDstudio is a leader in providing quality higher education using a number of delivery methods including fully online and hybrid. The unit broadly supports faculty and academic units in their efforts to leverage technology to optimize student learning and provides strategic leadership in developing expanding and enhancing VCUs online learning programs and energizing the assessment and continuous quality improvement of current and new technology-mediated courses and programs. The position is a Digital Learning Specialist (Instructional Design Specialist AA1). The Digital Learning Specialist will play a key role in advancing digital learning experiences by combining coding expertise design principles and creative problem-solving. This position requires strong technical development skills alongside the ability to manage support and integrate instructional technologies within the universitys Learning Management System (Canvas) T4 and other related platforms. The ideal candidate is a self-starter who thrives in a collaborative environment passionate about developing custom learning objects supporting faculty-facing digital tools and ensuring accessibility compliance in online learning. This role will also involve web development and digital content support for the units website as well as assisting with Academic Affairs web projects as needed. This position is predominantly telework but requires periodic on-campus presence for meetings and events and when indicated by leadership. The telework nature of this position is subject to change based on the universitys needs and strategic direction. AI should not be used for any part of the application submission or process. ORP Eligible: Yes Key Resonsibilities: - Assist instructional design team members in developing and maintaining faculty resources workshops and documentation on best practices for technology-enhanced learning
- Assist faculty in integrating digital tools into courses ensuring optimal use of instructional technologies
- Administer and support Harmonize Peerceptiv DesignPlus UDoIt Adobe Creative Cloud Adobe Captivate and any other newly adopted technologies
- Develop and code custom learning objects interactive educational tools and web-based learning applications within Canvas
- Design and implement LTI integrations interactive content and scalable digital learning solutions
- Maintain and troubleshoot third-party instructional tools and custom-built learning objects
- Ensure accessibility compliance including Department of Justice (DoJ) accessibility reviews and remediation efforts
- Prototype and test new digital learning tools that enhance student engagement
- Assist with managing and maintaining the LEDstudio website and support Academic Affairs web projects as needed
- Use T4 (TerminalFour CMS) to update and manage web content
- Research and implement new technologies that enhance digital teaching and learning
- Develop prototypes and proof-of-concept solutions for interactive course elements and media-rich learning experiences
- Collaborate with instructional designers media specialists and faculty to develop engaging technology-enhanced learning environments

| Qualifications | Minimum Qualifications - Bachelors degree in Computer Science Digital Media Instructional Design Educational Technology Web Development or a related field
- Three (3) or more years of experience in digital learning development instructional technology e-learning or related fields
- Proficiency in HTML CSS JavaScript Google Apps Script and/or other programming languages relevant to e-learning development
- Proficiency with T4 (TerminalFour CMS) for web content management
- Experience with Canvas LMS and third-party integrations
- Proficiency with the Adobe Creative Cloud suite
- Knowledge of SCORM xAPI and LTI standards for interactive learning tools
- Understanding of WCAG Section 508 compliance and accessibility remediation
- Ability to develop custom-coded learning objects and interactive course elements
- Experience supporting faculty in adopting instructional technologies and digital learning tools
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently
- Excellent interpersonal verbal and written skills
- Proven ability to work as a contributing and collegial member of a team and to communicate proactively within the team environment with supervisors and with the leadership team
- Demonstrated experience working in and fostering an environment of respect professionalism and civility with a population of faculty staff and students from various backgrounds and experiences or a commitment to do so as a member of the VCU community.
- Proven time management skills
