Opportunity Summary:
Sheppard Pratt offers long-term therapy crisis intervention and prevention services in select Baltimore City Elementary Middle and High Schools. Our interns will learn how to provide mental health services within a school context. Interns will gain exposure to individual and group therapy learn diagnostic skills with children suicide risk assessment and crisis protocols and understand how to work with prescribers and other complementary support programs. Some students may have the opportunity to participate in specialized trainings in evidence based practices.
Opportunity time frame:
Our school based internship begins the last week of August and ends in June. Interns will be offered individual and group supervision a clinical education webinar series and extensive training in our electronic health record EVOVL.
Eligibility requirements:
Our internship program accepts second year clinical graduate students from Masters Programs in Social Work and Mental Health Counseling. Bilingual applicants in Spanish are encouraged to apply since their language skills are needed.
Learning model:
Interns will receive individual and group supervision in addition to a formal webinar series in clinical topics. Interns can also participate in Sheppard Pratts nationally famous grand rounds series which offers lectures by the fields most respected experts.
Student expectations:
Interns will gain a thorough grounding in child and adolescent psychotherapy techniques learn the principles of clinical documentation and understand how to use an electronic health record.
Student tasks:
Interns will maintain a small caseload of individual therapy clients co-lead support groups participate in clinical trainings collaborate with families regarding needs and coordinate care with school based staff.
