JOB TITLE: Partsman-Transportation

PRIMARY PURPOSE:
The Parts Technician assists in maintaining parts/supply room. Purchase stock distribute and maintain inventory of parts supplies and materials for repairing and maintaining district vehicles.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
- High School graduate or GED from an accredited institution
Preferred:
- One years experience in inventory parts management
SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:
- Effective communication skills
- Knowledge of auto parts and terminology
- Knowledge of purchasing procedures
- Ability to lift heavy equipment and tools
- Ability to use computer and automated inventory system
- Capable of obtaining Commercial Drivers License (CDL) Class A or B
- Capable of obtaining and maintaining state bus drivers certification-applicants responsibility
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Contact vendors to check on availability of parts and supplies.
- Ensure parts catalogs and order books are current.
- Initiate purchase orders for parts and supplies to maintain established inventory levels.
- Collaborate and maintain a positive working relationship with vendors and shop personnel.
- Monitor parts room inventory and perform periodic inventory audits verify accuracy and account for discrepancies.
- Utilize computerized system to record and track receipt and issuance of parts and supplies.
- Pick up parts order or arrange for delivery.
- Assist with loading and unloading delivery trucks.
- Open crates and other containers unpack items received and inspect for damage and defects.
- Receive deliveries and verify accuracy of shipments by counting weighing or measuring and comparing size weight description and coded numbers with information on invoice or packing slip and purchase orders; record any discrepancies or damage.
- Create and maintain all physical and electronic records and files required including computerized parts and supplies inventory.
- Verify pricing of parts and supplies complies with state contracts and obtain price quotes for special orders and repairs.
- Monitor fuel usage and fuel storage tank level readings and assist with the ordering of fuel and scheduling of deliveries.
- Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
- Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting climbing etc.
- Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately.
- Maintain clean and orderly parts and supply room cabinets and equipment.
- Adhere to contracts policies procedures guidelines and State and Federal laws.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
The usual and customary methods of performing the jobs functions require the following physical demands: Moderate walking standing climbing heavy lifting carrying stooping bending kneeling and reaching. Work outside and inside around moving objects vehicles and machinery with moving parts. Exposed to dampness and humidity chemicals exhaust fumes gasoline and diesel fuel. Environmental Conditions: Work outside and inside; moderate exposure to extreme temperature (hot and cold) and vehicle fumes.
