Ultra Maritime has an exciting opportunity for an Embedded Systems Engineer or Firmware Engineer to contribute to our Towed Array Sonar solutions. As an Embedded Systems Engineer you will have the opportunity to work on all aspects of Towed Array Sonar development including designing coding testing and integrating firmware for embedded devices. The role would suit an electrical engineer with experience developing firmware for a complex product and a strong drive to deliver the correct solution that meets the user need.Nationality Requirements
Candidates must be eligible to obtain the relevant security clearance required for the role due to the nature of the programmes we deliver for our customers.
Job Description
The firmware engineer is responsible for designing coding testing and integrating Firmware components within custom-engineered systems. Specifically
Key Responsibilities:
Firmware component level and detailed design.
Firmware implementation and unit testing.
Firmware integration verification and defect resolution.
Contributing to Firmware design test maintenance and release documentation.
Contributing to a team effort within an Agile development environment.
Conduct Verification Engineering activities to accomplish subsystem integration verification procedures up to whole product level acceptance test procedures.
Required Skills:
Degree in Computer Engineering or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Self-motivated adaptable to change proactive diligent and inter-personal skills.
Experience developing and testing microcontroller firmware for 32-bit ARM Cortex-M devices.
Knowledge & familiarity with Digital Logic design Boolean algebra and Finite State Machine design.
Ability to write high quality design documentation and verification test procedures.
Ability to translate design requirements from schematics datasheets and design concept documents into firmware implementations.
Familiarity with laboratory instruments including oscilloscope logic analyzer power supply function generator spectrum analyzer.
Desired Skills:
Experience with Linux operating systems; comfortable working on the command line.
Experience with writing scripts in Python and Bash.
Experience with developing firmware for FPGA devices in VHDL or Verilog.
Experience with maintaining a product development backlog and a string drive to create the right thing based on stakeholder input and user stories.
Knowledge and understanding of networked systems and network protocols such as TCP/IP OSI protocol stack and experience capturing and examining raw network packets.
The Candidate must be capable of acquiring a Canadian / NATO Secret security clearance and a Canadian Controlled Goods assessment to the satisfaction of the company
The candidate must be available to come into the office with a high degree of regularity due to the hands-on nature of the firmware development and testing.
