GRANBY PUBLIC SCHOOLSELEMENTARY TEACHERJOB DESCRIPTION Position: Grade 6 Teacher Job Goal: To create a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth; to establish effective rapport with students; to motivate students to develop skills attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for the academic standards as outlined in the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks in accordance with each students ability; and to establish good relationships with parents and with other staff members. Supervision: Reports to the Building Principal. Education Work Experience and Licensure:Required: Certifiable Department of Education Licensure as an Elementary Teacher. Acceptable C.O.R.I. and Fingerprint report as determined by the Superintendent. Preferred: Prior work experience as an Elementary Teacher. Competency in use of current related educational technology. Performance Responsibilities: - Teaches reading language arts social studies mathematics science art health physical education or music to students in a classroom using a course of study that was adopted by the School Committee and is in full alignment with Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks. - Instructs students in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school. - Provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student. - Designs activities for learning experiences that best utilize the available time for instruction. - Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom. - Evaluates students academic and social progress keeps appropriate records and prepares progress reports. - Communicates with parents through conferences and other means to discuss students progress and interpret the school program. - Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health attitude and learning problems. - Creates an effective and attractive learning environment. - Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the school and self-selected professional growth activities. - Selects and requests books and instructional aids; maintains required inventory records. - Supervises students in activities outside the classroom during the assigned working day. - Participates in curriculum development programs as required. - Participates in faculty committees. - Develops lesson plans based on the state standards and the appropriate instruction methodology. - Maintains accurate complete and correct records as required by law school policy and administrative procedures - Administers or monitors group tests. - Acts as a Mandated Reporter (Chapter 119 Section 51A). - Complies with the Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Policy. - Other duties may be assigned by the Superintendent.
