5-12 INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC TEACHER (Brass Specialist)
Description: The Instrumental Music Teacher should demonstrate expertise and knowledge in a range of instrumental techniques as well as the elements and principles of music fundamentals music appreciation music technology and instrumental or brass methods. The Instrumental Music Teacher is responsible for utilizing research-based pedagogical strategies to teach lessons and engage diverse groups of students in grades 5-12.
Requirements:
- Bachelors in Music Education or B.A. in Musical Fine Arts
- Valid Massachusetts teacher certification in Music Education K-12
Preferred Requirements:
- Knowledge of the Massachusetts Arts Curriculum Frameworks and provide for standards-based instruction.
- Ability to communicate effectively with students teachers parents and administrators.
- Demonstrate a commitment to excellence equity and professionalism.
- Uphold high expectations for all students with an emphasis on building personal strengths in the teaching/learning process that the student body demands.
- Ability to collect interpret and disseminate data
- Willingness to collaborate with fellow building specialists and colleagues and engage frequently with fellow Music Department teachers across the district on cooperative projects and ensembles.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
- Prior experience with ELL students in an urban setting is preferred.
- Proficiency in reading writing and speaking in another language in addition to English
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Plan and facilitate instrumental music lessons for teaching 5-12 learners that are aligned with the Massachusetts Arts Curriculum Frameworks.
- Maintain great communication skills and the ability to foster positive professional relationships with students families and teachers.
- Organize and plan weekly brass lesson plans that align with the Massachusetts State Arts Music Frameworks.
- Utilize repertoire and materials of all types of musical backgrounds both traditional and contemporary as well as socially and ethnically diverse that are appropriate for the ages and skill level of students.
- Maintain care and responsibility for school-owned items musical instruments and equipment to prevent loss or abuse. Coordinate repairs to instruments as required.
- Assess the needs of students and evaluate student achievement.
- Maintain a culturally responsive approach to communication with students student counselors and families on a regular basis through conferences quarterly reports and other means.
- Participate in all professional music department and building activities.
- Engage frequently with fellow Music Department educators from all across the district on cooperative projects ensembles and curricula.
- Use the districts available technology and virtual curricula to create engaging lessons and supports linked with 21st-century skills.
- Manage classroom behavior with Positive Behavior Intervention Strategies that motivate students limit disruptions and create a sense of belonging.
- Incorporate social-emotional learning standards and curriculum that promote a sense of belonging inclusion self-confidence team-building and informed decision-making.
- Utilize inclusive practices and SEI strategies for multilingual learners.
- Plan rehearse and direct students in three Band programs for school and community (including Veterans Day Holiday Concert District Wide Vocal Night Memorial Day Concert)
- Creates and maintains a safe supportive and inclusive environment by establishing classroom routines and systems to support student learning.
- Communicate with students families regularly using culturally responsive strategies that promote two-way conversations.
- Contribute to school-wide initiatives and events as assigned by the Director of Visual and Performing Arts School Principal and/or Assistant Principal.
Salary:
Salary for this position will be based on the Everett Teachers Association Collective Bargaining Agreement.
