DescriptionResideo is seeking a Class A Tool Designer to join our 1st Shift team to plan design and modify new and existing dies molds fixtures. The selected candidate will be responsible for designs alteration to adapt old equipment to new uses.
The Class A Tool Designer position pays $45.63/hour. The Class A Tool Designer is also eligible for a $5000.00 sign-on bonus.
JOB DUTIES:
- Design special tools mechanisms and special machine tools following directions and suggestions or partial design. Requires knowledge of mechanics and application of mechanical movements. Adapt standard equipment to special purposes.
- Work independently to solve problems and create new designs generally with little guidance.
- Select materials to be used within limits of standard practice.
- Determine proper locating points of part for accurate machining and maintenance of required tolerances.
- Responsible for correctness of proportions consideration of stresses specs weight and other details.
- Change design to meet shop requests and may make alterations when in-process.
- Supervise test of new design if necessary.
- Familiar with ergonomics and with applicable safety standards relative to pneumatic hydraulic and electrical circuits.
- Work with Engineering Tool Makers and various internal team members.
MANUFACTURING OPERATING SYSTEM (MOS):
Embrace and engage in the internal Manufacturing Operating System (MOS) including activities but not limited to Safety & Behavioral Observation Process (BOP) 5S Continuous Improvement (Kaizen) Tiered Accountability Process Standard Work Rapid Problem Solving (RPS) Built In Quality (BIQ) Coaching Total productive Maintenance (TPM) and Knowledge Sharing.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Physical effort required in handling of heavy tools or dies and standing a majority of the shift. Majority of time is spent planning or laying out work and performing machining operations.
- Use of various machines involves some dirt oil chips etc.
- Long pants safety shoes and safety glasses with side shields required
- Personal Protective Equipment as required according to job duties
- No drinking or eating in designated areas
- May be exposed to noise varying temperatures dirt and/or chemicals in some areas
- Employees may be required to successfully complete location specific training to maintain eligibility for position
YOU MUST HAVE:
- 4 years of experience as a Tool Designer with knowledge of stresses speed weight and other details to attain correct proportions and mechanics and application of mechanical movements
- Professional experience operating equipment such as Wire and Sinker Electrical Discharge Machines (EDM) Computer Numeric Control (CNC) machines and/or lathes
- Proficient experience using AutoCAD Software or equivalent with knowledge of drafting standards and practices
