Selkirk Elementary School is located within the traditional territory of the people of Kwanlin Dn First Nation and the Taan Kwchn Council. Selkirk Elementary School is a dual track English/French elementary school Grades K - 7 with a student population of approximately 380. Key to Selkirk Elementary Schools philosophy is the incorporation of social emotional learning developmentally responsive practice and structured literacy and numeracy programming

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
Please clearly demonstrate on your cover letter and resume how you meet the following qualifications and experience:
- Bachelor of Education or equivalent;
- Recent teaching experience in a primary classroom;
- Recent experience teaching a structured literacy program in a primary classroom is an asset;
- Experience in the design and implementation of differentiated programming for diverse needs in a primary classroom (specific to numeracy and literacy) is an asset;
- Experience with successful implementation of strategies and goals from education plans in collaboration with team members is an asset;
DESIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND SUITABILITY:
Candidates should have and may be assessed on their:
- Knowledge of and sensitivity towards the culture and aspirations of Yukon First Nations and a culturally diverse student population
- Strong ability to adapt and modify curriculum to meet a range of learning styles and abilities;
- Ability to use developmentally responsive approaches to develop effective relationships with students;
- Experience in strong classroom management by setting clear routines and fostering a positive structured learning environment;
- Ability to assess students learning and report progress to parents/guardians using Assessment for Learning and outcome-based grading principles on a competency-based curricular framework;
- Excellent interpersonal communication and collaborative skills working with parents staff members consultants and community agencies;
- Willingness and ability to participate in the total school program;
- Experience implementing Universal Design for Learning (UDL) in a primary classroom;
- An appreciation of the cultural diversity of the Yukon with the ability to incorporate and promote this diversity within the school community.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- Criminal Record/RCMP Check with Vulnerable Sector; to be provided before the first day of employment dated no more than 3 months prior to your start date
