Department Summary

The IDEAlab Makerspace is a small team focused on creating and maintaining an engaging and educational makerspace.

The lab works with an array of individuals groups and departments internally in the library and across campus. The team is led by constructive collaboration and a drive to help users learn.

Workflow in the makerspace changes based on the semester allowing for periods of high patron interaction and other periods of increased internal projects.

Role Summary

Performs technical troubleshooting by leveraging documented procedures and ensuring a high level of customer service in order to support the business and academic mission of the institution through technology.

Performs technical troubleshooting by leveraging documented procedures and ensuring a high level of customer service in order to support the business and academic mission of the institution through technology.

Examples of Work Performed

This position is responsible for assisting the makerspace Program Coordinator in maintaining a clean safe and productive Makerspace.

Tasks include: Helping run events and workshops collect data and organize data related to the makerspace maintaining good verbal and written communication with makerspace patrons in person over the phone or through email keeping track of and fulfilling open orders on the 3D printers or large format printer assisting in the supervision of student workers and lab patrons ensuring that university policy compliance and safety.

In addition to these tasks this position will oversee the use of the following equipment: 3D printers A/V equipment Cricut die cut machine electronics equipment large format printer sewing machines and virtual reality headsets.

Essential Functions

These essential functions include but are not limited to the following. Additional essential functions may be identified and included by the hiring department.

1. Identifies troubleshoots resolves and/or escalates routine and first level technical problems for various products and services.
2. Receives and responds to inquiries and provides technical information through various communication mediums according to established policies and procedures.
3. Using the ticketing system log details of work performed and resolution procedures after intervention.
4. Assist with training student staff.

Minimum Education/Experience

Education:High School or Equivalent

Experience:(2) Two Years Experience

An equivalent combination of related experience and education may be considered for this role. Substitutions of the required experience or education will be assessed on a 1:1 substitution basis.

The schedule for this position will be Monday through Thursday 11 a.m. - 8 p.m.; Friday 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.
