Job Description

Position Summary

Serves as the role model and coordinates and performs all operations within the Draw Station/Laboratory for example Infusion Lab maintenance record retention order entry insurance verification and specimen collection/processing. These activities are performed in accordance with all existing regulatory state and company standards policies and procedures. Helps the Phlebotomy supervisor with oversight of all draw stations.

Written and verbal communication skills are essential. The Phlebotomy Team Leader will be instrumental in coaching and mentoring new employees. This position serves as a role model for team members and must demonstrate a high level of professionalism and adherence to policies and procedures at all times.

Key Accountabilities

  • Performs all duties within the draw station and infusion laboratory environment (same job duties as a Phlebotomist) and distributes responsibilities appropriately throughout the division.
  • Assists with creating phlebotomist schedules and assigning work resolving problems enforcing policies and procedures coaching and providing input to performance evaluations etc.
  • Helps to train new employees on procedures policies and workflows.
  • Continually strives to improve quality and productivity by identifying improvement opportunities and recommending and implementing changes.
  • Uses resources effectively and efficiently to achieve the goals objectives and deadlines within the Laboratory.
  • Provide coverage when scheduled or in emergency situations (callouts).
  • Maintains strict confidentiality.
  • Adheres to OSHA regulations.
  • Adheres to CLIA regulations.
  • Performs other duties as requested.

Relationships

  • Reports to the Phlebotomy Supervisor and Laboratory Manager.
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with patients providers staff peer group Corporate administration EHR and other internal departments computer services provider and vendors.
  • Leads team as directed.

Qualifications

  • Two to three years relevant experience preferred with at least one year of experience in the role that the incumbent will be overseeing.
  • Outstanding organizational and prioritization skills with a work history of increasing responsibilities.
  • Good computer skills including Microsoft Word and Excel and good math skills.
  • Excellent writing and keyboarding skills.
  • Advanced interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with all levels of staff and physicians.
  • Capable of team-building able to work in a team and to share responsibilities and duties; to work effectively and professionally under pressure and within established time-lines.

Working Conditions Physical Requirements

  • Incumbent may be required to work at any facility based on operation need and schedule may vary.
  • Potential travel to various practice locations will require ability to drive valid drivers license and use of own reliable transportation.
  • Requires full body motion including manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
  • Physical activity will include walking standing and sitting.
  • Physical demands may also include lifting and carrying equipment up to 50 lbs.
  • Other physical requirements include speaking and hearing ability sufficient to communicate effectively by phone or in person at normal volumes; vision adequate to read correspondence computer screen forms etc.; and good manual dexterity.
