Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY
Awaken Las Vegas is a Bible teaching church actively engaged in regular outreach ministries special events worshipping our God equipping our Church and reaching Las Vegas. The purpose of this position is to assist the Senior Pastor to faithfully steward the resources that the Lord has blessed the church with as well as minister and encourage those who work in the financial administration. The Accounting Manager shall perform tasks related to the proper maintenance of accounting records including but not limited to accounts receivables accounts payables and audit preparation for Awaken Las Vegas and Awaken Christian Academy. The Accounting Manager has responsibility for facilitating information flow to the third-party accounting firm adhering to all deadlines emailing invoices into the AP system verifying and depositing the weekly offerings cutting manual checks and processing bank wires.
KEY QUALITIES
This role is a vital part of the daily operations of the Administrative Department and has overall responsibility for all accounting functions including volunteer oversight in accordance with Awaken Las Vegas policies and Accounting Manager will be responsible for daily interactions with members of the team the church body vendors and the third-party account firm. This position requires the ability to work in a fast paced high-energy environment Required to develop and maintain strong working relationships and exemplify a love for Christ towards all church and school staff parents of students and vendors always setting a positive example. Must have the desire to grow in and serve the Lord Jesus Christ as an Individual Contributor with Godly management over the accounting function.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
GENERAL
  • Disciple and equip the congregants of Awaken LV to do the work of the ministry.
  • Assist in the preparation of financial statements.
  • Receives and records income and donations.
  • Assist with the Annual budget process and helping department heads in understanding the departmental budgets.
  • Supply church and school leadership with detailed spending reports from our third-party accountant.
  • Assist with Annual Third-Party Audit
  • Monitoring of Donors contributions and sending annual giving statements.
  • Responsible for receiving and distributing all vendor invoices to the respective ministries and/or department for proper approval.
  • Coding and input of all approved invoices into the accounting system.
  • Communicate with vendors concerning payment terms invoice discrepancies and proper payment instructions.
  • Classify 1099 vendors and issuance of year end reports.
  • Review all Request for Funds (RFFs) insuring proper approval and correct completion of form.
  • Monthly reconciliation of accounts payable records with general ledger for both church and school.
  • Maintain petty cash funds.
  • Make church bank deposits as needed.
  • Review and code all credit card statements and enter data and transfer funds as required.
  • Prepare reports or projects as assigned.
  • Involvement in Church events as required.
  • All other duties that may be assigned
MINISTERIAL
  • Must be a born again Christian and living a life that demonstrates a commitment to the word of God and committed to serving and supporting the vision and mission of Awaken Las Vegas. Attends weekly department meetings.
  • Exemplifies the love of Christ showing mutual respect dignity and integrity by always setting a positive example. Participates in Discipling and developing the community.
  • Possess the ability to apply Biblical principles of oversight and walk by Faith trusting our Lord Jesus Christ.
  • Must regularly attend and participate in services at Awaken Las Vegas
  • Be available to supply Prayer and Biblical Guidance when called upon.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
  • EXPERIENCE
    • 3 to 5 years minimum of demonstrated work experience in an accounting position. Prior church school or nonprofit experience preferred.
    • Excellent organizational follow-through written and oral communication skills.
    • General business knowledge of accounting and budgetary principles.
    • Experience in financial software such as Excel and QuickBooks.
    • Must be capable of working independently and managing multiple priorities.
    • Ability to treat confidential information with appropriate discretion.
    • Strong project management skills and ability to create advanced excel worksheets.
    • Excellent interpersonal and decision-making skills.
    • Strong organizational skills exceptional attention to details and ability to multi-task.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and extensive knowledge of Excel and Word including creation formulations and use of spreadsheets.
    • Must have a strong background in accounting which includes understanding accounting terminology and problem-solving ability.
    • Must be able to respond calmly and make rational decisions in an ever-changing high-energy environment.
  • EDUCATION
    • Bachelors degree in accounting or business administration preferred but not required. Significant experience can substitute for a degree.
    • High School diploma required. Business classes or certifications a plus.
