Senior Airworthiness Software Certification Engineer

The Safety Security and Airworthiness (SS&A) organizationis seeking a Senior Airworthiness Software Certification Engineerto join the Regulatory Administration and Airworthiness Division in Berkeley MO Daytona Beach FL Huntsville AL Long Beach CA Mesa AZ Oklahoma City OK or Ridley Park PA.

As the Airworthiness Certification Engineer supporting software certification across a range of programs you will take on a key leadership role in ensuring airworthiness certification. Your primary responsibilities will include guiding engineering leadership and their teams through the certification process adhering to MIL-HDBK-516C section 15 AC 17-01 EMAR (European Military Airworthiness Requirements) 21 regulations DO-178 activities and relevant regulatory addition you will be tasked with providing regular status updates and metrics to executive leadership.

The ideal candidate will bring a robust background in leading multi-disciplinary teams to meet challenging deadlines. You should have extensive experience in managing or leading projects and teams showcasing your ability to drive success across diverse initiatives. A proven history of overseeing large projects or programs utilizing project management tools and processes effectively is crucial. Additionally experience in planning project budgets and monitoring financial performance is required.

Our teams are currently hiring for a broad range of experience levels including Senior (Level 4) and Senior (Level 5) Engineers.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Manages the airworthiness activities of an active domestic or international military program

  • Supports program audits with foreign airworthiness authorities

  • Maintains costs and schedule and assists program owners in understanding certification issues

  • Assist in the development of certification strategies for software certification to MIL-HDBK-516C section 15 EMAR (European Military Airworthiness Requirements) 21 regulations DO-178 and relevant regulatory standards for military airworthiness programs

  • Assist in the mentoring of DO-178 CVEs and other disciplines for military airworthiness programs

  • Participates in industry standards development and benchmarking to inform new and innovative solutions

  • Leads engagement with regulators on complex programs or initiatives to shape and influence certification strategies approaches activities. Leads partnership and integration with regulatory authorities to complete validation of airworthiness to applicable requirements as authorized

  • Provides consultation on technical support training tools and resources provided to the delegated approval organization

  • Advises throughout the development of compliance reports and documents in accordance with applicable requirements and regulations

  • Leads promotes and provides recommendations on global regulatory advocacy strategies trainings tools and methods

  • Provides advanced technical consultation across the enterprise on aerospace regulatory compliance projects and programs

  • This role will have the potential for up to 10% travel to support multiple programs

This position is expected to be 100% selected candidate will be required to work onsite in one of the listed locations.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology) chemistry physics mathematics data science or computer science

  • 10 years of engineering experience

  • 5 years of airworthiness experience

  • 2 years of experience do you have with external regulatory/airworthiness authorities

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Experience with Military Aircraft Airworthiness documents and regulations

  • Experience with MIL-HDBK-516 Section 15 and implementing military airworthiness processes

  • Experience working with FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) and/or EMAR 21 (European Military Airworthiness Requirements)

  • Experience developing certification artifacts for international programs (Certification Plans Compliance Matrices Summary Compliance documents Means of Compliance requirements and statements and Certification Basis)

  • Experience writing and capturing International Airworthiness compliance requirements and documentation

  • Experience/knowledge with EMAR 21 for international programs

  • Experience leading multi-disciplinary teams to meet aggressive schedules

  • Experience leading or managing projects and/or teams

  • Experience leading a large project or program which required the use of project management tools and processes
