Are you enthusiastic about AI methods and data science Do you believe AI will change future health care

Then consider joining us!

The Faculty of Medicine Aalborg University is launching a strategic initiative on AI method research within health data science. The aim is to create a cross-disciplinary initiative to strengthen cohesion across medicine engineering and natural science disciplines and departmental boundaries at the faculty. To kick-off the initiative three tenure track assistant professors are recruited within the area of AI and Health Data Science. This position is specifically within Advancing AI-driven statistical genomics to unravel disease heterogeneity and improve precision medicine and is open for appointment as of 1 November 2025 or soon hereafter.

The tenure track assistant professor wil be employed at Department of Health Science and Technology (HST). At HST we conduct research teaching and innovation within engineering biomedicine sports science public health neuroscience psychology and physiotherapy to develop sustainable technological solutions. Our mission is to contribute to increased quality of life for the benefit of the individual human being and society.

We take active part in implementing the 2030 vision of the Faculty of Medicine: To become leading within digital health and well-known for doctors and engineers finding solutions together. HSTs mission is to drive positive societal impact through cutting-edge research and innovation with a strong focus on digital health. We are dedicated to address four grand challenges that shape our vision for a healthier and more sustainable future.
We educate bachelors and masters of science within biomedical engineering medicine medicine with industrial specialization biomedical engineering sports science public health and clinical health and technology. Our graduates contribute to setting the agenda for future needs and solutions for increased public health and implementation of new health knowledge and technologies.

Currently HST has approximately 280 employees 100 Ph.D. students enrolled at the Doctoral School in Medicine Biomedical Science and Technology and 1500 students in our bachelors and masters programs. We hold state of the art research and teaching facilities.

The successful candidate is expected to be independent yet collaborative and to conduct research at an international level developing statistical learning deep learning graphical models and/or Bayesian methodologies for resolving disease heterogeneity identifying gene-gene networks or improving integrative genomic prediction models for common complex human diseases with particular attention to cardiometabolic conditions.

The candidate will hold a PhD in statistics mathematics bioinformatics computational biology or statistical genetics and should have a strong record of developing methods at the intersection of artificial intelligence and statistical genetics with an emphasis on integrative analysis of multi-modal biomedical data. Expertise in Bayesian modelling graphical models multi-trait approaches or deep learning applied to genomics is particularly desirable. Experience with applications to complex diseases especially cardiometabolic traits is considered a strong asset. The ideal candidate will have an excellent publication record experience working across interdisciplinary teams strong communication skills and a commitment to teaching and supervision.

The Genomic Medicine group leverages large-scale genomic data to investigate phenotypic diversity in humans with a particular focus on cardiometabolic conditions. Our mission is to advance the field of precision medicine by developing innovative statistical genetics methods implementing state-of-the-art machine learning algorithms and integrating artificial intelligence to uncover novel biological mechanisms. By bridging methodological innovation with biomedical application we aim to create robust tools for disease stratification risk prediction and the identification of causal pathways in complex multifactorial diseases.

Tenure-track assistant professors are offered employment for a six-year period during which they must acquire qualifications at the associate professor level.
