Serves as Medical Radiation Physicist in the Cancer Centers of Northern Arizona Healthcares two cancer centers. Involved in both clinical and machine physics serving as directed in the leadership development implementation and technical aspects of the Radiation Oncology programs. The Medical Radiation Physicist works under the direction of and is supervised by the Chief Medical Radiation Physicist the Radiation Oncologist(s) and the Department Director performing physics service in accordance with the American College of Radiology Standards of practices as required by regulatory agencies and may work collaboratively with other departments medical physicists to address common programmatic needs.
Responsibilities
Clinical
* In conjunction with the Chief Medical Radiation Physicist and the Radiation Oncologist assists with the physics needs for the Brachytherapy program; including High Dose Rate (HDR) and Low Dose Rate (seed implant).
* Assists with oversight of the treatment planning program.
* May direct Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy IMRT) treatment planning and program operations as directed or delegated.
* In collaboration with the Radiation Oncologist(s) assists with the Stereotactic RadioSurgery program (SRS) and directs the Stereotactic Brain Radiotherapy Program (SBRT).
* Participates in the Cancer Centers quality assurance program.
* May directs proficiency testing of radiation oncology equipment for acceptance and on a periodic basis.
* Performs chart reviews and therapy calculations dosimetry assistance and facilitates treatment plan development and reviews as delegated.
Administrative
* Assists with the Radiation Safety Program in the cancer centers.
* May supervise or work collaboratively with the Lead Dosimetrist Staff Dosimetrists Lead Radiation Therapist and Staff Therapists.
* May coordinate or provide direction to the BioMedical Technologist assigned to Radiation Oncology.
* Provides interface with the Arizona Department of Radiation Protection maintains licensure for the facilities and serves as primary liaison with other state and federal regulatory agencies for Radiation Oncology as delegated or directed.
* Coordinates as directed with the designated Radiation Safety Officer for Flagstaff Medical Center and Verde Valley Medical Center on radiation licensure radiation exposure monitoring and reporting.
Technical
* Assists with Radiation Safety Compliance and reporting.
* Competent in three dimensional treatment planning.
* Competent in brachytherapy treatment planning including HDR and seed implants.
* Knowledge of calibration of Linear Accelerators and other radiation sources.
* Expert in clinical dosimetry and treatment planning for external beams and implant sources patient set-up and computerized treatment planning.
Compliance/Safety
* Responsible for reporting any safety-related incident in a timely fashion through the Midas/RDE tool; attends all safety-related training programs; performs work in a safe manner; monitors work environment for possible safety issues and ensures others are also performing work in a safe manner.
* Stays current and complies with state and federal regulations/statutes and company policies that impact the employees area of responsibility.
* If required for the position ensures all certifications and/or licenses are up-to-date and valid prior to expiration dates.
* Completes all company mandatory modules and required job-specific training in the specified time frame.
Qualifications
Education
Masters Degree in Medical Physics or a closely related discipline- Required
PhD in Medical Physics - Preferred
Certification & Licensures
Completion of Part 1 of Certification by the American Board of Radiation Therapy Physics or Radiological Physics- Required
BLS Certification completion- Required within 90 days of hire
Experience
Minimum 2 years Clinical experience in a Radiation Therapy department- Required
Experience in the following areas- Preferred HDR and LDR treatment planning using Eclipse BrachyVision and VariSeed. Familiarity with ARIA Record and Verify System Version 11 and higher. Varian Linac Commissioning Calibration and QA. CT Simulation. Image Guidance to Generate Treatment Plans as well as for Patient Setup.
