Dorchester County Public Schools is currently seeking a Food Service Area Manager. This position provides supervision and training of staff in relation to the production of food for school cafeterias. The successful candidate must be a team player while also being a self-starter able to work independently and increase the daily participation and la carte sales. This is a eleven (11) month full-time position.
DUTIES:
- Direct and train all food service staff in food production and serving cashiering facilities cleaning pre- and post-service food storage and related activities in multiple locations.
- Work with school cafeteria managers to ensure the proper amount of food and supplies are ordered.
- Work with school cafeteria managers to ensure the overall cleanliness of the kitchen equipment and facilities at multiple locations.
- Work with school cafeteria managers to ensure all records are maintained of purchases inventories expenditures donated food purchased foods student participation and income at multiple locations.
- Assures compliance with USDAs Meal and Nutrition Requirements
- Work with Food Service Manager to review and approve weekly school food orders review and update ala carte pricing annually
- Make recommendations as appropriate that contribute to the efficiency of the DCPS food service operation to the Food Service Manager
- Coordinates inventory control
- Must be able to perform professional development training with Food Service personnel
- Must provide onsite support for all Food Service personnel
- Work with Cafeteria Managers and staff to always produce better quality food including batch cooking techniques and time management
- Substitute for Cafeteria Managers as needed
- Coordinates and conducts student taste tests
- Analyzes reviews and maintains food production records
- Analyzes plans and updates menus commodity pricing school signage and order forms
- Create ways to increase daily participation and increase la carte sales.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associates or Bachelors degree preferred or High school diploma or G.E.D. certificate required with a minimum of three (3) years of professional experience in food service.
- Certificate in Safe Food Handling or be willing to obtain during the first year of employment.
- School Nutrition Certification Level 2 or higher.
- Formal training in food service operations is preferred.
- Demonstrated experience in school and/or commercial cafeteria management and food preparation.
- Ability to do all job requirements at multiple locations.
- Ability to direct and supervise personnel at multiple locations.
- Possess computer skills with the ability to develop Excel spreadsheets create Google documents and training videos. (Knowledge of office software packages such as Microsoft Word Excel and Outlook).
- Possess mathematical skills and ability to use office equipment.
- Familiar with the operation and basic maintenance of food service equipment stoves freezers dishwashing equipment steam kettles etc.
- Ability to manually move shelve stack or raise from floor to table or serving area heavy objects (pots pans trays and food supplies) weighing up to 35 pounds.
- Possess good organization communication and public relation skills.
- Ability to communicate positively in written and oral form with a variety of stakeholders
- Must demonstrate professionalism when dealing with all stakeholders.
