Job Description

Amazon is seeking an experienced and business orientated Design Manager who will own the delivery of innovative designs within a portfolio for the International Operations Design Team. The Design Manager is responsible for the management of processes information flow and acts as an SME in facilitating collaboration and portfolio alignment to deliver layouts on time and to a high quality.

The ideal candidate will be a natural self-starter and experienced in logistics and design possessing a high work capacity & agility. They will be detail-orientated and data-driven with a talent for problem-solving and a positive can-do-attitude. Knowledge of operations processes design dependencies and execution for a construction and fit-out environment is this role the individual will understand all aspects of planning design and deployment of an Amazon Fulfillment Centers (FC) and co-ordinate the composite design deliverables. The individual will ensure that customer needs for designs are met and drive year-on-year improvement in stakeholder collaboration and efficiency. The Design Manager will support the Design Program Manager in planning execution and tracking of the program working within a cross-functional team to provide best in class designs and deliver turnkey ready projects from day 1.

The role will be based in Mexico with some travel expected for up to 40% of the time depending on the project portfolio.



Key job responsibilities
Manage and deliver composite designs with no compromise on safety and the quality of customer experience. Bring scale to programs and establish opportunities to share value of initiatives with multiple teams;
Foster a culture of collaboration and common objectives to ensure stakeholders are brought on the journey and customer solutions can be delivered with precision;
Run efficient high-quality designs and processes ready for field execution. Ensure that designs are reviewed and accepted prior to enable approvals within SLA and meeting regulatory compliance. Protect overall quality drive consistency and avoid compliance issues across the program;
Contributes to cost reduction efforts identify opportunities for cost savings/avoidance through clash detection flow and process improvement P&D allocations and other initiatives within the program;
Own end-to-end design for projects assigned mentor/support team members on design improvements. Demonstrate proactivity in solving design problems for the wider business. Manage strategic non-portfolio program development;
Act as a subject matter expert for Ops Design processes within and outside GES;
Facilitate program level meetings and tracking;
Collaborate with stakeholders across multiple teams during design execution and launch and with technical partners to ensure timely elevation and resolution of potential risks and issues
Comfortable in different roles and able to effectively communicate & work with subject matter experts in Safety Construction Engineering Real Estate Procurement etc


Bachelor or Master Degree in a STEM discipline (Science Technology Engineering Mathematics) Operations Business Administration or a related field
Proven experience in operations design for a logistics or relevant environment
Experience interacting with cross-functional teams & subject-matter experts
Professional working knowledge of AutoCAD and Revit applications
Strong verbal and written communication skills in both native and English languages
Professional working knowledge using Microsoft Office Applications MS Project etc
Flexibility for business travel

Work space design and layout experience
Experience drawing in a warehouse or fulfillment center environment
Proficiency in additional European languages
Experience in process design/optimization
Experience with MySQL and PowerBI platforms
French German Polish Portuguese Arabic Turkish Afrikaans and Zulu are considered preferred qualifications.
