Job Description

A vacancy exists for a School Psychologist at the Pottsgrove School District.

Under the general supervision of the Director of Pupil Services with additional supervision from the Special Education Supervisors and Building Principals the School Psychologists duties are to conduct evaluations assist in the Child Find and Multi-Tiered Systems of Support processes and overall assist students teachers and parents in enabling students to derive the fullest potential educational experience from school.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conducts psychological assessments testing and diagnostic examinations of students for the purpose of recommending courses of action or corrective procedures to maximize learning and overcoming psychological issues.
  • Conducts individual group or facilitative therapy for students whose diagnosed problems would benefit from behavior modification or differentiated instruction.
  • Assists with the identification and placement of all types of exceptional students including gifted.
  • Member of the building-wide Multi-Tiered Systems of Support team. Provides input to other referral and tiered teams ie-ESAP data teams PBIS etc.
  • Coordinates with administrators and other teaching staff members to ascertain individual students abilities and needs including students with special needs and to familiarize stakeholders with psychological services.
  • Attends IEP and 504 meetings as needed for students with special needs.
  • Serves as a resource and consultant on mental health and child psychology conducts in-service programs as requested.
  • Assists with the school districts dropout prevention efforts.
  • Conducts and supports the building teams with suicide risk and threat assessments.
  • Serves as ready resource to students to provide counseling that will lead each student to increased personal growth self-understanding and maturity.
  • Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars workshops or professional meetings or by conducting research and by maintaining professional relationships.
  • Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping and providing student information to prospective colleges and employers as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
  • Leads and supports the team through the manifestation determination process.
  • Conducts evaluations of students who are going through the early intervention process as they transition to school age services.
  • Encourages parental involvement in students education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
  • Selects and requisitions appropriate books evaluation materials aids and other supplies and equipment and maintains inventory records.
  • Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Masters Degree from an accredited college or university.
  2. Pennsylvania teaching certificate appropriate for the teaching assignment.
  3. Have good physical health and a positive attitude.
  4. Prior teaching experience while not required may be preferred.
  5. An understanding of the latest instructional strategies in academic areas.
  6. Command of the basic skills and knowledge required for the teaching assignment.
  7. Awareness of the need of children for a sense of worth and dignity understanding and direction.
  8. Ability to plan organize and implement meaningful learning experiences for children.
  9. Ability to work cooperatively with principals coordinators other staff members and parents.
  10. Provide evidence of a desire to positively influence the lives of students.

Location:Lower Pottsgrove Elementary School (grades 3-5)
Compensation:
Commensurate with PGEA Collective Bargaining Unit salary schedule.
Benefits:
Eligible for healthcare benefits and the state retirement system (PSERS).
