Vancouver Coastal Health is looking for a Speech Language Pathologist to join the team at Vancouver General Hospital as a Practice Leader. Apply today to join our team!

As a Practice Leader Speech Language Pathologist with VCH you will:

  • Works in a team-based environment and is charged with overseeing practice in the designated area.
  • Support clinicians with their practice and participating in planning and coordinating practice standards goals and objectives in conjunction with designated management and other team members and collaborating on various staffing and quality control issues.
  • Work in partnership with clinical operations leadership Regional Clinical Education and Quality and Safety and other partners.
  • Provide leadership direction and guidance on areas related to research practice updates/changes and education as well as working in collaboration with operations on Speech-Language Pathology service design or redesign.
  • Work in partnership with professional associations regulatory bodies and other external partners to ensure Speech-Language Pathology practice within the designated geographic and/or program areas of the health authority is within applicable legislation and regulations.
  • Work under the direction of the Allied Health Practice Director and in collaboration with the SLP practice leadership team to enact priorities and ensure organizational practice guidelines and education mediums and modules support standardized evidence-based practices across the health authority.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Current full registration as a Speech Language Pathologist with the College of Health and Care Professionals of BC (CHCPBC).
  • Seven (7) years recent related experience including three (3) years previous supervisory experience in Speech-Language Pathology or an equivalent combination of education training and experience.
  • Holds at least one College approved Certified Practice certificate in an area of operational need.

Knowledge & Abilities

  • Demonstrated knowledge of organization policies procedures and standards of care.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Speech-Language Pathology theory and practice within a client and family centred model of care.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of other health care disciplines and their role in client care.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the College of Speech and Hearing Professionals of British Columbias code of ethics scope of practice and standards of practice for clinical practitioners.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of provincial and federal legislation pertaining to SLP practice.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of leadership approaches and strategies
  • Comprehensive knowledge of research process and methodology.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide leadership supervision work direction and training.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as a member of an interdisciplinary team and ability to model and foster a positive collaborative and respectful working environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate with (both verbally and in writing) and to deal effectively with co-workers physicians other health care professionals clients and their families and external agencies.
  • General knowledge of Trauma Informed Practice and Harm Reduction approaches and Strengths-based care.
  • Demonstrated ability to promote Indigenous Cultural Safety.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide competent and culturally safe care in a variety of settings and with diverse populations.
  • Demonstrated ability to function as an effective team member leader mentor coach and facilitator.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan organize and prioritize work.
  • Demonstrated ability to adjust to new or unexpected events.
  • Demonstrated ability to deal with and/or guide others in resolution of conflict issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to problem-solve.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop project plans and implement new projects.
  • Demonstrated skill and ability to operate related equipment and techniques appropriate to clinical areas.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
  • Basic computer literacy to operate a computerized patient care information
  • Valid Drivers License and access to personal car may be required.

The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes.

As per Ministry of Health policy all health care workers working in publicly-funded health care facilities are required to report their past receipt of certain vaccines or history of certain infections. Collecting these records will allow for offering of any missing vaccines and for appropriate actions to be taken in the event of any future exposure to a communicable disease or during outbreaks. For all new hires and appointments to Vancouver Coastal Health you will be asked to provide this information as part of the onboarding process.
