SUMMARY
Coordinates and delivers instruction to students enrolled in the Plumbing program the Federal Correctional Institution El Reno Oklahoma. Responsible for recruitment and all teacher-led instruction work-based learning ongoing curriculum development of all hands-on skill development activities. Must be knowledgeable in all facets of residential and commercial plumbing. Normal hours are 7:00 am to 3:00 pm Monday through Friday (class meeting time is 7:30 am to 2:30 pm with one-hour unpaid lunch break). Additional time may be required for curriculum development etc. Must maintain professional attitude and appearance when representing Canadian Valley Technology Center (CV Tech). Twelve-month position assigned to Business and Industry Services (BIS) reports to the Assistant BIS Director. Evaluated by FCI-El Reno staff and Assistant BIS Director according to Canadian Valley Technology Centers policies and procedures.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Minimum of three (3) years related industry teaching experience in the past five (5) years. Certified to teach in the general field of post-secondary education Oklahoma or be able to pursue a provisional teacher certification per the requirements of the Oklahoma Department of Career and Technology Education (ODCTE). Specifically
- Be able to provide a current industry credential (Journeyman or Contractors License in Plumbing)
- Be able to successfully complete and pass a Teacher Certification Background Check (2B7KS5)
- Be able to provide information and fully cooperate with all vetting and background checks required by FCI-El Reno
Preference may be given to individuals with experience in classroom instruction with incarcerated adults experience in Career and Technical Education plumbing and/or mechanical troubleshooting and repair experience in teaching and marketing training programs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge skill and/or ability required.
- Develops and maintains records as required by Canadian Valley Technology Center the Federal Bureau of Prisons and the Oklahoma Department of Career and Technology Education.
- Adheres to Federal Bureau of Prisons/FCI-El Reno policies procedures and security measure.
- Maintains plumbing program safety/training equipment inventory and records
- Ensures that the equipment necessary to meet the training needs of students are available and in safe working condition;
- Cooperates with FCI-El Reno and CV Tech staff to endure smooth operation of the training program and the submission of all required documentation in a timely manner;
- Tests students to measure progress and to evaluate the effectiveness of the training program;
- Attends in-service meetings conducted by Canadian Valley Technology Center and the Oklahoma Department of Career and Technology Education.
- Be able to complete a Statement of Qualifications form
- Be able to attend and successfully complete the New Teacher Academy for T & I Instructors (year 1)
- Be able to attend and successfully complete additional professional educator development and training provided by CV Tech no less than 56 hours per fiscal year (July 1 June 30) for years 1-5 of employment;
- Be able to be constantly aware of security and to maintain a professional relationship with inmates at all times to report and provide required documentation of any violation of the FCI-El Renos rules and regulations immediately to FCI-El Reno staff.
- Be able to read understand and agree to abide by all Whistleblower procedures that are in-place at FCI-El Reno.
CURRICULUM AND INSTRUCTION
- Assists in developing and/or locating plumbing-related training materials equipment and curriculum
- Maintains a class schedule for delivery of classes requested by FCI-El Reno staff;
- Ensures that students receive instruction in relevant industry-standard skills and safety practices aiming for each to eventually achieve licensure to include:
- Installing laying out connect test and maintain plumbing systems for a variety of purposes;
- Pipefitting;
- Familiarity with and ability to abide by the requirements of the National Standard Plumbing Code;
- Compliance with state and local building codes when installing plumbing equipment;
- Training that will qualify graduates for an entry-level position in the field of residential or commercial plumbing;
- Training on resume writing and successful interviewing skills
- Guides training program development and identifies potential problems and possible solutions;
- Evaluates revises and updates curriculum as needed with the assistance of CV Tech Instructional Services staff
- Research relevant news articles for the latest training information
- Works collaboratively with Canadian Valley Tech Center Business and Industry Services staff in planning and developing curriculum to meet the needs of students;
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
- Attends in-service meetings and trainings conducted by CV Tech the Oklahoma Department of Career and Technology Education and FCI-El Reno when requested;
- Attends New Teacher Academy training when offered in order to support requirements of the provisional teacher certification requirements;
- Takes advantage of opportunities to further teaching skills as a professional educator whenever available;
- Stays informed of new regulations and industry standards through participation with professional affiliations;
