The Ohio Attorney Generals Office is currently seeking an experienced attorney with a passion for public servicedemonstrated commitment to protecting the unprotected and a desire to work toward the enhancement of police officer training and law enforcement improvement to serve asan Assistant Attorney General for our Ohio Peace Office Training Academy. This position will report to the London OHoffice as directed.

The Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy houses both Commission and Academy staff. Commission staff overseestraining requirements and basic curriculum for peace officers private security local corrections jail personnel K-9 unitsand humane agents in addition to firearms programs for public defender investigators bailiffs probation officers andparole officers. They also oversee certification standards of peace officers. Academy staff provides instruction in advanced tactical hands-on training for Ohio peace officers using the latest research tools and techniques..

The primary responsibilities of the Assistant Attorney General are:

  • Acting and serving as an authorized agent of the Attorney General.
  • Handling and responding to publicrecord requests directed to the Ohio Peace Officer training Commission and Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy(OPOTC/A).
  • Assisting in the development and review of policies and procedures and related documents to support OPOTC operationsand in the development and review of formal rules relating to the commission.
  • Monitoring legislative changes and case law developments that may impact the OPOTC operations OPOTA/C lesson plans (basic peace officer corrections private security and advanced training) or the law enforcementcommunity.
  • Analyzing and interpreting legal issues drafting legal documents and communications corresponding with interested partiesconducting training and participating in stakeholder outreach as needed and other duties as assigned to assist the ExecutiveDirector.
  • Responsibility for public record fulfillment as well as assisting with record retention and disposal schedules.
  • Assisting in the legal review of basic advanced and online training content for the law enforcement community; in theinternal development and review of documents relating to policies and procedures governing the operation of OPOTAtraining operations; and in the development and review of formal rules relating to basic advanced and online training forthe law enforcement community.
  • Assisting subject matter expert groups in the development and revision of training content as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director and Principal Attorney to assist in the development and delivery of training for the law enforcement community.
