Job Summary:

The Department of Biomedical Informatics (DBMI) in the University of Colorado School of Medicine is seeking a faculty member with a research program centered on developing a functional precision oncology program that moves discoveries to the bedside. The ideal candidate will use organoid-based or other rapid turnaround screens to generate uniquely valuable clinically actionable data on meaningful timelines and who are excited to see those results drive real decisions in cancer care alongside efforts to uncover and develop more effective therapies.

The DBMI and CU Anschutz environments are ideally built for translation of work in this space through its strong connections to the University of Colorado Cancer Center Colorado Center for Personalized Medicine and other campus units focused on translation of data to practice. The ideal candidate will seek to lead prospective studies that close the loop from screening to care mentor trainees at the bench-informatics interface and help establish resources that enrich the campus environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Develop and lead an independent research program with extramural support.

Develop screening platforms and methodologies that enable data-driven decision making on clinically meaningful time scales.

Collaborate with DBMI faculty and others within the discipline to combine screening with informatics approaches to advance the practice of personalized medicine.

Individually and in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams obtain external funding and publish impactful manuscripts.

Mentor pre- and post-doctoral non-clinical and clinical trainees.

Work Location:

Hybrid this role is eligible for a hybrid schedule of 3 days per week on campus and as needed for in-person meetings.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Associate Professor:

PhD in biomedical informatics or a related technical field (e.g. computer science engineering physics applied mathematics statistics) OR MD/DO plus graduate degree in an appropriate technical field

A track record of accomplishments consistent with appointment to an Associate Professor position in DBMI in the CU SOM

Professor:

PhD in biomedical informatics or a related technical field (e.g. computer science engineering physics applied mathematics statistics) OR MD/DO plus graduate degree in an appropriate technical field

A track record of accomplishments consistent with appointment to an Professor position in DBMI in the CU SOM

Preferred Qualifications (All Ranks):

Expertise in cross-disciplinary research particularly in the areas of cancer biology engineering and structural biology

Experience with studying protein conformational changes in cancer cells and leveraging these changes for cancer therapy

Proficiency in precision medicine approaches including the use of patient-derived tumor organoid models to tailor treatments

Focus on rare tumors with experience in studying under-characterized cancers that have limited or no standard of care

Post-doctoral experience applying technical expertise (e.g. computer science engineering physics applied mathematics statistics) to health-related applications or in clinical informatics

Experience collaborating with researchers in multiple different domains and healthcare providers

Accomplishments and publications in research areas spanning the boundary between the biomedical sciences and the computational sciences.

Strong computational skills as evidenced by completed projects and developed software tools and systems

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

To be successful in this position candidates will need to demonstrate/be the following:

Excellent verbal written and interpersonal communication skills.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE:

Associate Professor $176000-$220000

Professor $230000-$250000

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the Universitys good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation unless it is non-exempt.
