Job Description
HSSE Department intends to appoint a tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor in History Education focusing on any of the following:
History teacher education
Teacher professional development
History curriculum development
Concept-based teaching
Historical thinking / field-based / history classroom pedagogies
Assessment and evaluation in history
This position will provide the suitable applicant with opportunity to conduct research in his /her area of specialization and teach history education at the worlds #15-ranked university (QS World University Rankings 2025). In addition there will be unique opportunities to work with academic geographers historians and educational research scientists and explore history education research in primary and secondary school contexts through collaborative research projects.
Requirements
Successful candidates must have:
AdoctorateinHistory Education from an internationally acclaimed institution at the time of appointment
Specialization in any of the following areas: history teacher education teacher professional development history curriculum development concept-based teaching historical thinking pedagogies field-based pedagogies assessment and evaluation in history
A good track record in research including publications with high-ranking journals and presses or a promising trajectory in research and publication for early career scholars
A good track record of teaching preferably at both undergraduate and graduate levels
Familiarity with the Singapore History curriculum and the Singapore education system would be highly advantageous
Excellent interpersonal communication and technology skills and dedication to academic teaching excellence and collegiality
Responsibilities
Successful candidates will be expected to:
Teach existing courses and develop new courses in History Education in HSSEs initial teacher preparation and graduate programmes including supervision of student teachers in their teaching practice in school
Supervision of graduate research and coursework students
Plan develop and lead in conceptualization and implementation of strategies for professional development in History Education for in-service teachers in Singapore
Conceptualize and develop a sustainable and productive research programme in the area of History Education including applying for grants and publishing in reputable journals or other outlets in the field of History Education
Establish professional connections with local and international researchers and practitioners in History Education
Share expertise with NIE colleagues through various platforms
Assist in administrative work in the Department and in NIE NTU
