The Distribution Market specialises in designing projects for electricity distribution businesses (EDBs) in New Zealand having successfully completed projects for most of the 27 EDBs in the country. The team is involved in a variety of projects including zone substation upgrades/new builds renewable generation connections switchboard upgrades ODID (outdoor to indoor) projects and smart technology implementation.

Our exciting recent projects have included studies for major wind and solar farms where we undertake work for both the developer and utility on the application and due diligence sides. We like to work as a trusted partner with our clients and are always looking at ways to innovate and challenge how things are done.

You will be able to foster and develop professional and technical experience and advance your career while leading mentoring and sharing your knowledge with others.

You will have the opportunity to grow into a consulting role and become a trusted advisor for our clients where you execute and lead projects on behalf of a market-leading company.

What will you be responsible for

As a Team Leader you will be leading the design of distribution projects throughout NZ while also fostering a collaborative and supportive work environment. You will play a crucial role in the design of some of NZs critical electrical infrastructure which will ultimately improve the reliability and quality of supply to our communities.

In addition to providing people leadership technical guidance and senior-level support to the Distribution Team you will also promote cohesion among various teams in our office.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

  • Leading a team within the Distribution Market to deliver projects to our clients
  • Organising and managing the team resources to meet workflow demands
  • Providing oversight and direction on projects managed within the team ensuring effective communication and coordination with other teams
  • Managing design projects and contributing to or leading multi-disciplinary project teams
  • Developing and fostering relationships with clients to understand their opportunities and requirements then delivering projects to meet them
  • Providing technical guidance to colleagues and other teams promoting knowledge sharing and collaboration
  • Preparing high-quality written reports and presentations for management and customer review
  • Coordinating subcontractors suppliers and project stakeholders
  • Providing technical expertise in accordance with project time quality and cost objectives
  • Compiling budget estimates and pricing schedules
  • In addition to your core responsibilities you will be a key figure in organising social activities that bring together team members from different disciplines. You will also play a vital role in ensuring the well-being of all team members and maintaining open lines of communication with their respective managers in other locations.

What are we looking for

You will be a team player with a passion for motivating and developing others. You will have a solid grounding in electrical design and be someone who actively pursues continuous learning to help shape the future. You will need a University degree - BE Electrical/Electronic Engineering or equivalent five years minimum relevant experience and will have;

  • Extensive industry experience preferably in NZ or Australia and the ability to build industry networks
  • Previous consultancy experience is preferred
  • A high degree of technical experience and competence
  • Experience in electricity network and substation system designs
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Self-motivation organisation and a strong work ethic
