WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:
This position performs research on various criminal records from local and state agencies and is responsible for processing arrest and disposition information into the states criminal history repository. Additionally the position coordinates and responds to requests for record reviews from the department criminal justice agencies and the public and coordinates with law enforcement agencies prosecutors courts and correctional facilities to obtain source documents for criminal history events.

OUR ORGANIZATION MISSION AND CULTURE:
The criminal records unit processes all disposition information into the states criminal history repository. The repository is used by criminal justice and non-criminal justice agencies throughout Alaska and nationwide and the information maintained in the repository is critical for public safety to ensure decisions based on criminal history records are made using the most complete and accurate information available

THE WORKING CONDITIONS YOU CAN EXPECT:
This position is located in East Anchorage in the Department of Public Safetys (DPS) Headquarters building at 5700 East Tudor Road which includes the following: the Chugach Mountains providing the backdrop for the building ample parking public transportation drop points located directly in front of the building and paved trails adjacent to the building. Individual office space for this position is co-located with other criminal records unit staff to encourage team building and collaborative efforts.

AT THE TIME OF INTERVIEW:
  • A list of three (3) professional references including daytime telephone number and email address; at least two (2) of these must be from a current or former supervisor.
    • Professional is defined as a supervisor or an individual who has direct knowledge of your work performance.
  • Copies of your last two (2) performance evaluations or two (2) recent letters of recommendation if performance evaluations are not available.
  • If using post-secondary education to meet the minimum qualifications a copy of your transcript(s).
    • Unofficial copies are acceptable but must have the institution name/URL listed on the transcript

FLEXIBLY STAFFED - Combined posting (I/II)

This position is flexibly staffed. This vacancy may be filled at either the 1 or 2 level depending on the applicants training and/or experience. The full range of salaries is listed above. Starting salary will be determined by the level the position is hired at. If filled at level 1 promotion to level 2 will occur upon successful completion of the probationary period and required training as well as the applicant meeting the minimum qualifications of the higher job class.


BACKGROUND CHECK

This position requires the incumbent to submit to a fingerprint based criminal history background check. Due to the sensitive nature of this position and required access to APSIN an applicant with criminal convictions will not move forward in the selection process.


CONFIDENTIALITY AGREEMENT
The successful candidate will be required to read understand and agree to via signature an agreement of confidentiality concerning the work commonly encountered within the Department of Public Safety to qualify for this position.


EDUCATION

To verify education is being used to meet and/or support the required minimum qualifications/competencies you must fill in the Education section of the application.
