Job Description

Title: Automation Engineer
Reports to: Industrial Engineering Manager
Company: American Pan
Location: 417 E. Water St. Urbana OH
American Pan is currently looking to fill the position of Automation Engineer. This position works closely with the Industrial Engineering Manager to design and build machine systems that improve the safety quality and efficiency of current manufacturing processes.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
  • Stay abreast of the latest technology and advancements in automation/control systems; leverage new technology to advance plant operations.
  • Continually analyze plant processes for opportunities to improve safety quality and productivity through automation and/or new technology.
  • Use computer- aided modeling to define and perform tests on automated systems to ensure safety and quality.
  • Design implement and maintain automation robotics vision systems and control systems in manufacturing processes to improve employee safety product quality plant efficiency and reduce cost.
  • Interface with outside vendors to select and specify equipment needs.
  • Design write modify and review PLC & robotic programs to support production mix needs.
  • Maintain excellent documentation of program/process changes.
  • Maintain the software that controls automated systems.
  • Run tests on the machines to make sure they are running to existing standards.
  • Troubleshoot existing automation robotics vision systems and control systems to maintain production reliability; develop creative solutions to equipment/process problems.
  • Develop Preventative Maintenance program for automation robotics vision systems and control systems; construct key spare parts lists and system to maintain; develop TPM programs for key systems.
  • Manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously as needed.
Qualifications Knowledge and Skills:
  • Bachelors degree in Engineering Mechatronics or related field
  • Strong technical background with passion for manufacturing technology with a desire and ability to envision new manufacturing concepts.
  • 5 years directly relevant experience designing implementing and maintaining automation/control systems in a manufacturing environment.
  • Proven track record of defining and implementing automation systems that meet specification to schedule.
  • Possess strong cause-effect analytical ability to solve problems.
  • Proficient in electronics mechanics robotics vision systems and PLC programming.
  • Knowledge of CAD/CAM software
  • Proficient at reading and drafting electrical diagrams.
  • Possess process/application knowledge of manufacturing processes
